I have written menu (HTML) which works fine, which implies that user can hover the mouse and see all the available options. (i.e. File – New, Save as ..) For some reason I also have a Select object (Combo Box). (Bug in HTML that you can not change the Z-index of a Select object) Now if user hover the mouse on any menu item, the Select object is top of selection of that menu item’s selection and user can not see that. Is there any way so that I can change Z-index of Select object (Combo Box), so we could able to see the selection from menu?

I have a Select object (Combo box) which is just under the menu bar. When my mouse hover the menu a drop down menu shows up, this is correct behavior. The Select object always has high precedence, so my menu items show beneath Select object (Combo box). My real question was to bring menu item above the Select object (Combo box). There must be a way. Try in HTML file any two objects, where one of them should be Select object. Try to change the z-order. You just can not.
Thanks for reply

Hi,
Anyone out there know how to enable the creation of the internet shortcut onto desktop with a customised icon by embedding this function in a web page? Maybe using asp or java script? Therefore when user clicked on this new icon on the desktop, it will launch again the index page.
Thanks

I don't think that would be possible.
AFAIK that would require direct file access or atleast access to the Windows Shell API functions, which a rogue web site could then use to wreak havok on a users desktop.
The best you can do (I think i've never done it, but I believe i've seen it done) is register your web site with that users favorites list. You could probably also use an activex control and wrap the windows shell api required to create only desktop icons.
Cheers

Maybe you don't need to access to the WShell API, just creating a FileSystem object (FSO), but the user will have a mess about insecurity page, and if had a AV this will launch the creation of FSO, so that better way I imagine, it's make a little installer, you can try with NIS, it's good.

IHMO it would just be easier to wrap the windows shell in an activex control. Either way your still going to be requested to permit the downloading and usage of an activex control.

Not being funny, but I don't want my web browser to do that if I'm on your page. If your page is geuinely useful, then I'd make a favorite or shortcut for it anyway.
Being slightly more useful - there was some stuff to do with installing "desktop items" (whatever that might mean) using something called a DesktopComponent, which was originally an IE4 thing related to Channels (which are now defunct). That might help you, but I don't know anything about it beyond that, so YMMV.

I’m soon running into a program project where the goal is to make the following:
We want to scan users interaction on our Webb page. Which links they click on and so on.
We will start with a e-mail where they click on a link to our page. The link should be specified in some way that we know which of our customers doing what?
We have a quite good knowledge about .NET and usual Internet protocols like HTTP and so on.
Really need suggestions how to tackle this problem. Our web page is written in .asp but nowadays we would prefer ASP.NET.
Thanks - Anders

There is software out there that will parse and analyze server log files and return info like: most popular page, least popular page. Common search engine keywords, etc...

awstats is a good log analyser

no its even simpler than that
all links are of the form:
my_logging_function(link)
the logger just logs and then redirects to the link

I have a problem it seems that when I try to send a file in the html format it doesnot send the saved html files i have saved based on the response. For instance I have four different html emails to choose from based on the customers request. Originaly I had no problems using this code in the CDONTS format where I could tell it what type of mail it was based on the body format.By the way I'm loking for independant web developers that Know asp.net or asp to develope and maintain web sites.

Anyone know of message boards which are open source and powerful like CP? I need it in PHP however
I have tried the PHP version available with the message boards source for CP boards here on CP, but it totally sux...
So does anyone know of an alternate PHP message board? I'm not a real fan of those phpBB type forums...however if they integrate into the body of a web site easily (so they don't require a sepaerate page) I'd be interested.
Thanks

Probably one of the most popular PHP boards that I've seen is phpBB. I haven't used it too much, so I don't know how much is there; but, it should be worth checking out.

Hi,
I have a page that does a password change. It takes in parameters and updates it to the database.
Now, I want the main page to call this page in a modal window.
Problem is that when the user hits okay in the modal, a new window pops up. How do I avoid that?
I'm new .. so detailed examples or instructions would be appreciated.
