It's usually referred to as a guest book.
It's implemented as example code for Microsoft IIS & ASP coders.

Hello All,
I am New to php
I wanted to modularize my pages nicely.. Found a method to divide the page into different php file and include them in the main page.. Is it a good method? . . If so, I am not getting where to put my java-script code. . Usually I put them in the header of the page or a different file and set up the link in the header... But now, if I want to call a method from a subdivided php file, do I have to write the method in the same file, or I can put all the method in the main page, just like usual?
Please feel free to point me out if I am lacking some other basic concept
thanks

AFAIK, if you're using Microsoft IIS you can add php interpreter, and that way you can mix php, jscript and vbscript.
With full access to functions/variables in either. (within the same ASP file)
Access to functions located in other files can be achieved with *includes* directives, which load the external file into the current web server code.

A. Why yes, it's celery or tomato.

I want to develop web site for my University Cricket Club. I also want do design the theme for this project myself. so, I need suggestin about in which language i should develop the theme i.e HTML and CSS , or php or asp.net.
|

You should start with HTML5 and CSS first.
Might as well start at the top with 5, and learn CSS to make it look nice.
No need for technology in the beginning, just master the basics first.
Buy a book, or google HTML 5 lessons

MCAD and MCSD were the certifications for .Net 2.0 and earlier. MCAD only required a few exams, all programmer based. MCSD required a couple of additional exams such as Windows Server and SQL server.
MCPD is the newer certifications starting with .Net 3.0 and on. I got my MCAD and MCSD but about 10 years ago. I am not even sure if the exams are around anymore.
You'll want to follow the MCPD route. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/mcpd-certification.aspx[^] This link explains the required exams.
In my opinion, certifications are useless unless you are too inexperienced to get a job and/or your company gives bonuses for achieving them. Experience is always the best when you are looking for a job. They did help me get a job but once you have a development job, I am not sure I would spend the time working on them. Of course, I am an advocate for continuing education so there is value in pursuing, they just won't help you get a job once you already have experience.

1. We don't share code out here. We will try to help you if you get stuck.
2. Your question is not clear on what are you trying to do.
What I can share based on what it seems:
to access dropdown in JavaScript: document.getElementById(<%=myDropdown.ClientID%>).value
|
|
|

If you use jQuery it is pretty simple.
$('#mySelect')
.append($('<option>', { value : key })
.text(value));
As an example. But the previous poster is right. It's hard to find someone who will just hand you all the code you need. Get started with this and then let us know if you get stuck.

I have website 1 that has a menu item which links to another website 2.
Website 1 also calls website 2's data and display it on website 1.
There are instances where the user is on website 1 where we display website 2's data and the user also decides to link of to website 2.
Now the data on website 1 is stale unless you refresh the page.
Are there any better ways of handling this?
|
|
|
|
|
The only way to handle is to requery for the data. Using jQuery's .ajax() call can make that easy but you need someone of knowing when to do it. That is all dependent on your design.
The answer really is it depends on how you are doing things, but use ajax to do it.

Hi,
I'm just starting to learn. I'm using Web Forms, and am trying to add a table to the Database. For starters it tried to use the WingTipToys DB, (the last tutorial I played with), that was until I removed that solution altogether. I created an Entry in DB Explorer called 'dbo.Customers(Design)' It refuses to save, and refuses to show in DB Explorer.
Also, I played with Web Matrix (I toyed with it earlier), you can populate the DB with initial data. How do I do this with Web Forms.
Thanks for any help at all.

I've run across this same issue. Few years ago, while trying to use Visual Studio 2005 and the first NET Frameworks ASP.NET samples that shipped at that time. All that stuff about [localserver] ... baffling. To say the least. And especially since the "installer" and the coincident scripts and commandline .exes that own the bin directory weren't even compatible with the shipping specs of that VS version.
Long story short, it's Visual Studio 2010 for me. NET Framework ASP.NET samples gone the way of the wind. VS2010 has it's moments (historically, that is ... upgrades to the "Click-Once" fiasco ... actually MADE it work, thank god, etc) ... where am I ... oh yeah, Database Explorer.
What worked for me was this. Forget about VS2010 and the programmer's nexus to database development for just a few moments. I know, it's hard ... you've got all those wizards telling you that it's easy, right? And all the other vanilla in-the-box things that are gonna help you doo what you want in ... C++ (me), VB.NET (me again, from QBASIC), etc.
Instead, download the SQL Server 2008 Managment Studio Express (R2 sp?) with Advanced Services, install it, and the Book-On-Line that documents IT ALL. And while you're at it, go to codeplex and download the AdventureWorks databases (there must be 10 of these, at least). The BOL breathes volumes of usefulness into the AW samples.
Take a few weeks to do basic things, create tables, create databases, do this, do that; pick a few BOL examples that leverage the "Change COnnnection" button in the SSMSE interface (That Database Explorer outstrips the VS version by miles! And then there's the Object Explorer! Freaking great app, all of it).
Once you "see" how to do what you want in "database" you'll realize that asking questions about SQL is a big waste of time.
While ... downloading the BOL might help to answer the basic "array/matrix/table" conundrum. First glance.

Sounds great, and thanks for showing me that I'm not going insane. Any chance of a link to all this though ?
Thanks

I have 25 years of development experience - all of it Windows. I started with GB-Basic, then on to FoxPro/Visual Foxpro, and for the last 10 years I have been doing C# WinForms & WPF.
I want to start learning to do web development. I tinkered around with ASP.Net MVC 3 for a while, and that's about the extent of my experience.
I literally know next to nothing about web development. So where do I start? Can someone recommend decent entry level books or tutorials?
Many thanks
If it's not broken, fix it until it is

I actually like the WROX books myself.

Glad to hear your making the jump to web development. My career stared with VAX/VMS Fortran programming and I continue to learn new things every day.
The folks here are extremely helpful, you can learn alot from this community.
Good luck.

I have two applications, both asp.net mvc3 projects. Both of them were working fine. But after a while I get the 'resource cannot be found error' if I run them.
Please does any one know what could be the cause of this problem?
Thanks in anticipation of helpful responses.
