That would be a little bit too much, don't you think so? Codeproject has about 7.3 million members, so if everybody would help you, that would be overwhelming.

Here's[^] an easy way to do it in IIS7.

PHP is not a web server, it's a programming language. If your PHP is running on IIS, you can use the link I showed you before. If it's running on APACHE, use mod_rewrite[^].

Hello dear reader.
I have the follwoing problem. Please be aware I'm almost a beginner with html
I'm creating a html-page with a "navigation-pane" at the left side and a "content-pane" at the right side in the html-page. Creation is done via some xsl-transformation from some xml-files.
Now I found, that there are basically two ways to do this
a)
Via framesets. This seems to be obsolet somehow - I have read. But on the other side it seems to be easy: Just create all the different html-pages for the content and load it via selection in the navigation-pane.
b)
Via CSS. This is what I want to do. But my problem here is: I do not understand it at all. How can I load different content into the content-pane !?!? Sorry, it seems I can not even ask the right question
Does somebody have any idea ( if you understand what I want to say )?

What you are trying to do is to have content in a minimum of 2 divs. The first div will be the navigation pane, and the second div will be the content pane. Now, if you're looking to develop css based sites and you haven't got much of a clue how to do it, you really need to check out the tutorials and articles in A List Apart[^] - it seems to be the premiere site for web developers. I'd also check out Eric Meyer's[^] books - he has plenty of samples that should help you (and you can download the source code for nothing from his site).

hello,
i've had a look at his site, but I didn't find code.
Can you send me a "detailed" link?
Thanks for you help

How hard did you look? This[^] is a pretty decent example, but you really should start reading around this.

Good luck. They are both great HTML/CSS resource sites.

Dear reader,
I'm looking for a "very" good book on html-programming.
On a scale from; 1(beginner) to 10(expert) I estimate my skills at level 3.
Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks !

That is highly subjective. Search Amazon and find one that seems best for you.

As Mark said, it's pretty subjective.
Having said that, I do have a recommendation: I recently needed to update my knowledge, and I ended up buying Web Design in a Nutshell[^].
I'm quite happy with it, though it's getting a little dated now what with the oncoming HTML5 / CSS3 onslaught. I've read most of the book, and it brought me back up to speed. Thanks to that, these days I can just usually look things up on the Web when I have a question or need a refresher on a particular language element. I still refer to the book from time to time though, so I'm still getting some use out of it even now.

We are building a XML at runtime using Request.Form. For Example the webpage has multiple vehicles the expected format is <hid_veh>N</hid_veh><hid_veh>Y</hid_veh>, But sometime the XML is framed like <hid_veh>N,Y</hid_veh>because of this the xml file is not transformed properly. Please advice on why it’s happening.
Thanks in advance.

I believe your problem is the xml format is incorrect. In that case you must investigate the code that creates the above xml format. That may solve your issue.
If you are not criticized, you may not be doing much.

The following works for h3 - h6, but not h1 or h2
.test h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6 {
font-style: italic;
}
.test h1,h3,h5 {
color: red
}
.test h2,h4,h6 {
color: maroon;
}
Specifically, 'italic' is ignored for h1, h2, red ignored for h1, maroon ignored for h2
BUT
If I rearrange so that neither h1 nor h2 is the first in either list, then all is well for all h's
OR
If I put a dummy value as the first arg in the lists, all is well.
[ex: .test dummy, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 { stuff }
Is there some rule about h1,h2 I never learned, or is this a weird bug in CSS ?
Additional Notes:
This is in an external style sheet, but seems to be the same when declared in
Browsers tested:
Firefox 3.6.10 and IE6 . Also, rendering in Expression Web 3 design window.

Hi
Here is the solution
<style type="text/css">
.test
{
font-style: italic;
}
h1.test,h3.test,h5.test
{
color: red;
}
h2.test,h4.test,h6.test
{
color: maroon;
}
</style>
Please do let me know, if you have any doubt.
Please provide "Vote" if this would be helpful, and make "Correct Answer" if this would be correct answer.

Thanks for your effort, but making this work for h1 through h6 was not my question.
The question is 'why does putting h1, h2 as first element in the list fail?'
Putting a dummy value in front of them, or rearranging them, also fixed the values.
Why does h3, h4, h6, h6, h1, h2 work for all, yet h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 only work for h3-h6 ?
Is this a bug in CSS, and are there other known similar bugs?
As an aside, the .test { font-style: italics; } is rather extreme - requiring correction styles whenever that class is declared and italics are not required. I think this point is somewhat a matter of taste.
None-the-less, thanks for your input. At least I know someone is reading this forum!

".test h1" means h1 INSIDE another element with a class equal to "test". Maybe you were expecting your style to work with headings outside of that element with the "class=test". Subsequent headings did not encounter the problem because there were no constraints, that is they did not have to be inside the said element to adapt the style.
