Hi,
I have a kind've strange problem in VS 2005. I have an application which, if i run and i put a breakpoint in front of creating a connection, works just fine. But if I simply run it, throws this error
{"The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection' threw an exception."}
Here is the code that's causing it:
_sqlConnection = new SqlConnection(Settings.ConnectionString);
where _sqlConnection is declared like
private static SqlConnection _sqlConnection = null;
and Settings.ConnectionString like
private static string _connectionString = string.Empty;
public static string ConnectionString
{
get
{
Configuration config = ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(Settings.AppName);

I'm currenlty working on my first semi-serious program for my local RPG gaming group. Got the design sorted no problem, but one thing seems to be eluding me and i cant seem to find the right answer on the net anywhere(probably not asking right questions, but hey ho)
Anyway my problem is this:
I have a series of forms. On each on this forms are various controls such as text boxes, radio control groups, drop down boxes etc. These contain information on character information(such as stats, skills etc)
I'm trying to find the way i can save and then at a later date load this information back from either all the forms or simply one of the forms, so that they dont have to pick the settings or re-enter the information each time they start the program.
Any help would be appreciated, but please i must warn you am still new to c# so nothing too complex please

Write a class that represents this form as a model, copy the values from the controls to the model, and then save the data to the disk.

A settings file would be the easiest way.
You can find it under the Properties tab in the solution explorer.
Add variables to it, and then you can save and load data using

*** = Properties.Settings.Default.***;<br />
<br />
Properties.Settings.Default.*** = ***<br />
Properties.Setting.Default.Save();<br />
This way your variables will be saved between sessions.

would this work with diffrent users(EG Main, Person1, Person2) all haveing seperate files ? (named of course)

Ok just to clarify from above(and make sure i got it in my head right):
//Save data(which would go under whatver i deced would be the Save control/command)
Properties.Settings.Default.textbox1.Text = textbox1.Text (and repeat this for each control)
Properties.Setting.Default.Save();
//Load(which would go under my "Load" control/command
...
textbox1.Text = Properties.Settings.Default.textbox1.Text
(repeated for each control)
(Applogies for repeating what you said like to make sure i understand things correctly)

If books and research are enough then why do you think this forum exist. This is not IEEE organization where only advanced scholars post rsearch and thesis.Now, in this case , its a simple question, but what increased my blood pressure is you posting a CP ignore message ! And you are a very well respected member of CP.

My concern is that he is asking the basics of questions, "How do I connect...?" A few tutorials should at least be read, then at least TRY coding it. Then if he got stuck I would have no problem helping.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people who just post absolute beginner stuff without doing any kind of research themselves, like we can just somehow magically make them understand everything. I mean honestly, the time it takes to wait for a reply from someone on a forum is probably a lot longer than it would take to figure it out on your own.

Is it possible to increase or decrease the brightness of a display (digital display connected via DVI) using API calls ?
If so, does someone have an example of the API usage? I imagine it's part of the DirectX API's.... which I've never used before.

I know NVidia has software that automatically does all that for you, so it is quite possible  .

I am trying to access a single value from a dataset, this is how i am calling it, how can i access the value from that dataset? It either outputs a 1 or a 0, pretty straight forward right?
