Hi,
I was asked this question in an interview and would like to know the correct answer for this.
I have a .Net remoting component. (By remoting concept, the calls to the remote obect will be basically made on the proxy.)If we create a tlb for this remote component and use it from a COM component, in this case, will the remote calls be made on the proxy or on the server object.
Please help me to get more insight in to this.
Thanks,
Mani

What setup solution are you using? I don't have any expirience with making setup files, but one can only help you, if one know what solution you are using.

Hi All
I want to set/control a selection range on a System.Windows.Forms.TrackBar.
I think that can be accomplished by setting TBS_ENABLESELRANGE, but I can't find a property or method to set the value. Can someone tell me how to configure the TrackBar to select/display a range? If so, how do you read the range back?
Thanks
Robert Ernst

Hi
I would like to trace my application and put all messages in a text file.
I use
Trace.TraceError("");
Trace.TraceInformation("");
Trace.TraceWarning("");
methods and when TraceSwitch level is set to for instance Error all messages are put in a file?
Why?
I thought when I set TraceSwitch (ts) to Error only TraceError messages would be sent.
I would like to change only trace level and certain messages should autmatically be put in a file.
Should I use Trace.WriteIf(ts.TraceError == true,"...");
What for if TraceError, TraceWarning etc.???

I'm looking for a good book or other resource that describes best practices for separating an application into presentation, business logic and data access layers. I am particularly interested in best practices for designing the communications between the layers and the structure of the application that allows data to be retrieved from the data source via the data access layer then passed to the presentation layer through the business layer and then back through the business layer to the data access layer. Does anybody have any recommendations?

actually i have developed a windowd service in c#.net , this service retrieves data from a sql server installed on a work group on the same lan wherre my computer resides , but it gives an exception always " login failed for user sa reason cannot connect to a trusted sql server connection. " remote sql server is configured for both windows and sql server authentication and i have configured serverprocess installer for local system account with user name password = null ;
kindly help me

Your service is running under the Local System account, but in your connection string your specifying Trusted Connection. You can't do that since the Local System account is not trsuted by the SQL Server, and can't be. Remove the Trusted Connection part of your connection string, but still supply an SQL username and password to use. DO NOT USE THE 'SA' ACCOUNT! Create a seperate account to be used by the service for this database.

Hi thanks for your cooperation , i have created a seperate user on sql server with the name "terminal" and passowrd "abc"
i am supplying the following connection string
"Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=software-14;Initial Catalog=company071;;integrated security=SSPI;User Id=terminal;Password=abc;";
kindly tell me where i am wrong , is there any need to create a windows nt user on the pc where sql service resides .
i m getting the following exception
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection
hello

Remove the Integrated Security junk. This is what's causing your "trusted connection".
Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=software-14;Initial Catalog=company071;User Id=terminalassword=abc;

thaksn again
but dear this time it gives this exception
Login failed for user 'terminal'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
my connection string is
"data source = software-12;initial catalog = company071;user id=terminal;passowrd=abc"
hello

Did you copy/paste this connection string or just type it into this post??
If you're using the SqlConnection object, it should be:
"Data Source=software-12;Initial Catalog=company071;User Id=terminal;Password=abc"
This will work so long as you've created a user id terminal and assigned it the appropriate permissions to the company071 database. This means, at a minimum, giving that user db_datareader and db_datawriter roles in your database.
Also, when you created the user, did you turn on SQL Server authentication for it?

No i just typed this string here , my this service works fine of i provide my local system sql server in connection string,even i give trusted connection = true in the case of local sql server ...so connection string is working fine .
Thanks for yoru cooperation
on other side let me tell you how i crearted a user.
Enter prise manager i select my locar server , go into security >logins
>in this window >right click >i provided in the name text box "terminal"
i checked sql server authentication > i provided password>i selected master as dafault data base> lanuguage English>than Server Roll TAB>i checked only system administrator>
>than TAB database access > i selected Company071>in the window belowe for company07 roles > i checked public and db_owner>at the end a password confirmation window open and retype the passowrd for this login...
Now i am in company 07d1 databsase>i select logins> now here is a login of terminal>
i open its properties>public and dbowner fields are already checked>now i click permission button>and i select the "Employee"table >now i press columns buttons > here i check the necessery columns for htis user > click ok and finich every thing is fine, in query analyzer results are perfect, this user can access the data base company071 tables employee
hello
|
|
|
|
|
The default database is not master. It should be Company071.
Other than that, I can't see what you did wrong. Either there's something you're not telling me, or there something you are telling me that's not been verified as being true.

I'm looking for a way to persist (or at least serialise) all the properties of a Control, in particular a DataGridView. I would like to emulate the MS Access feature, where if I change, for instance, a column width at run time, the grid retains the new width for future sessions.
I could hard-code only certain properties, such as column width, but I'm busy setting up a prototype project that allows me to play with many properties at runtime and immediately see the effects of my changes. I would like to preserve configurations I prefer for use in production scenarios.
I could do this with reflection, but that's a bit more involved than I want to get right now.

You have to create at least one separate application pool for your .NET 2.0 applications. An application pool uses a single (pool of) worker processes, W3WP.EXE. A process can only load one version of the .NET CLR in its lifetime. If they share a pool, whichever version of the framework loads first will be the only version running in that pool. This can cause .NET 2.0 applications to fail if they end up running on 1.1 or vice versa.
