Thanks , But :

Why is ClickOnce not acceptable? From what you have said it would seem to be the best solution. Obviously there is something about your environment that makes it unacceptable. I cannot suggest anything else unless I know what the constraints are.

I have used the AppUpdater[^] and also works fine. It's similar to ClickOnce, though, so you might also have a problem with it.

Hello!
I don't know if I understand the problem correctly, that's why I'll ask about it first.
My computer stands behind a firewall that blocks all ports except for a few.
But I need these ports. So I thought to write a program that will route a port that is opened
by my firewall to a port that I can't get to it, and install it on another computer outside the
network with the firewall. First, is it a possible solution?
Second, can I write such a program in C#?
Thanks in advance!
Have a nice day!

Your explanation isn't very clear at all. You're making statements that contradict each other and you haven't provided any information about where the traffic is comming from that you want to redirect to where. Are the blocks that you're talking about on inbound traffic, or outbound? What ports??
Yevgeny Efter wrote: So I thought to write a program that will route a port that is opened

This makes no sense at all.
What's the "other computer" outside the firewall?? What's it's purpose in life?
If you're talking about routing traffic from the Internet going to a specific port on a machine inside the firewall, the only thing that can redirect that traffic in the firewall itself.
If you're talking traffic comming from your machine that is going to a machine on the outside, then you have to open a connection on the target machine and the target port on that machine.
Yevgeny Efter wrote: Second, can I write such a program in C#?
I seriously doubt it.

I know this isn't the right forum, but the right forum has disappeared. I re-installed VS 2008, then ReSharper yesterday on my laptop, and now my Intellisence isn't working in the XAML editor. It works everywhere else, and on my desktop machine it works in the XAML editor as well. I really don't feel like trying another re-install just to be disappointed again. Any ideas?

I have about 11 pcs that after running the installer (built with vs), the winform application will not start. The event log does not contain errors. It does contain a message about the install completing sucessfuly. When I double click on the application icon, it displays an hourglass, then the hourglass goes away, and then nothing. No error message is displayed.
I have had our desktop support team run software inventories on the affected PCS. All PCS are XP with sp1 with varying amounts of memory from 512mb to 1.25gb of ram.
Other PCS that the application was installed on work just fine.
Any thoughts about what I should look for would be appreciated.

Is the .Net Framework installed on these machines?

Yes it is.
I have narrowed the probelem down to this error message:
"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. Exception Type: System.AccessViolationException "
I was able capture some information and put it into the event log. The form starts to execute and calls the InitializeComponent() method. The InitializeComponent() method first instantiates all the controls and then it trys to start setting the properties for a tab control. When settting the tab control properties it throws the error above. This form was converted from .net 1.1 to 2.0. Also, the research I have found on this error is it was previously threw a null reference exception in 1.1. However we never had any problems with this form in 1.1.
The really strange thing is that when I do a remote desktop connect to the PC from my laptop (we are 2 floors apart), the code works just fine. If I go down stairs and login to the PC directly, the code does not work.
Thanks,
patrick

Weird. The remote desktop behaviour suggests to me that there might be some kind of graphics card/driver related problem on the target PC, but that's only a guess and very dubious one at that.

I drag a wpf button on to a wpf form and wire up it's OnClick to display a message box (Helo, world! ).
When the button is clicked (whilst running) it's background colour repeatedly cycles between the mouse over and mouse out states (ie Highlighted/Un-Highlighted).
This can't be normal, can it?

I'm think this is perhaps a default behavior, but how can it be over-ridden?

Right, after much farting about, this does seem to be a default behaviour applied to buttons when they have focus. I shall fart about a bit more to see how styles can be applied to change this.

The styling you are referring to is the new standard in Windows Vista for the button control. To override the syling you can create a copy of the control template in Microsoft Expression Blend and delete that behavior.

Hi,
Can someone help me in understanding the additional features provided in .NET 2.0 for Webservice development or how webservice development differs in .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0
Thanks - kalai.

I can't give you the specifics, but there are definitely improvements and additions on the XML protocol standards, additional web method attributes and general bug fixes or performance improvements.

i'm developing on a wss 3 site (on a VPC staging image) and just seen that the application is running with version .NET 2.5...
how do i get it to use .NET 3. i need to use one of the new components that comes with .NET 3 but have no idea how to get to it.
the class i need is called ExcelPackage which is apparently part of the System.IO.Packaging component in the WindowBase.dll installed in the GAC.

Sorry guys nevermind managed to find a way around, here's the answer for those of you who ever have the same problem:
.NET 3 just includes a few extra components etc and actually runs on top of .NET 2 (when you install .net3 it installes .net2 first). in IIS you can't actually set an app to run in .net3 but the extra components should be available to you.

I'm writing a C# Windows/.Net 2.0 app which will take a large XML document as an initial input. My form has 4 basic controls: 3 comboboxes (Country, State, and City) for filtering the XML data and a DataGrid to display the results. The XML doc has this format:
<updates xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<locations>
<country name="United States">
<state name="California">
<city name="Santa Monica">
<location id="2" venue_id="1" category="Hotel" name="Example Hotel" address="3214 Wilshire Blvd." zipcode="90404"/>
<location id="3" venue_id="2" category="Airport" name="Santa Monica Airport" address=" 3223 Donald Douglas Loop"/>
</city>
<city name="Los Angeles">
<location id="4" venue_id="3" category="wwan" name="Cell Carrier GPRS Network" address="Entire LA Metro Area"/>
</city>
<city name="San Diego">
<location id="5" venue_id="1" category="Hotel" name="Mike Hotel" address="3214 Mike Blvd." zipcode="90414"/>
<location id="6" venue_id="2" category="Airport" name="John Airport" address=" 3223 john Douglas Loop S Ste 3"/>
<location id="7" venue_id="1" category="Cafe" name="New Hotel" address="3214 New Scott Blvd." zipcode="90434"/>
<location id="8" venue_id="2" category="Bar" name="New Airport" address=" 3223 New Douglas Loop S Ste 4"/>
</city>
</state>
<state name="Colorado">
<city name="Colorado Springs">
<location id="2" venue_id="1" category="Hotel" name="Example Hotel" address="3214 El Paso Blvd." zipcode="90404"/>
<location id="3" venue_id="2" category="Airport" name="Colorado Springs Airport" address=" 3223 Airport Drive"/>
</city>
<city name="Denver">
<location id="4" venue_id="3" category="wwan" name="Cell Carrier GPRS Network" address="Entire COSP Metro Area"/>
</city>
</state>
</country>
</locations>
</updates>
I have no problem using XPath queries to extract the values to populate the Country, State, and City comboboxes; each selection drives the data in the subsequent combobox. Upon selection in the City combobox, I can query for a resulting set of 'locations'. My problem is how to stuff this XmlNodeList into a DataSet which I can then use with my DataGrid. I have no problem reading an entire document into a DataSet
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
ds.ReadXml("Test.Search.xml");
but have no idea how to stuff an XmlNodeList into one.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is currently support on the NodeList or Navigator objects to do that. Besides, I would recommend that you rather create the appropriate DataTables and DataColumns manually for this operation and then use the Iterator to populate your DataSet manually.
It won't be alot of work and you still have the power to specify your types to the column.
