Hi,
I am having two table which are related with primary and foreign key constraints. I want to delete records from both the tables using innerjoin.
I applied like this,
delete sports,studentregtable
from studentregtable as sr
INNER JOIN sports sp ON sr.registerNo = sp.RegisterNumber
where RegisterNumber = '123'
but it is giving an error like incorrect syntax near ",".
can you please help me if you know the solution.

You have to delete from each table separately. Try the following
delete from studentregtable where registerNo = '123';
delete from sports where RegisterNumber = '123';

If one of the tables has a foreign refencing the other table, start with the table with the foreign key.

If this is SQL Server, you can specify to cascade deletes when you create the foreign key constraint. Then, you can delete from the parent table and the database will automatically delete the corresponding rows from the child table.
Personally, I don't like this because it makes me feel as if I'm not in control and I get nervous when the DBMS does things behind my back like that. But some people swear by it, so YMMV.
Sybase and DB2 both have this same cascade ability on a foreign key; not sure about Oracle but I guess it probably does.

I'm in the process of starting a new application, mainly for the Desktop, but multi-user ready, about 10 users, using VB.NET and Winforms. What do you thing is the DB engine to choose ? Msaccess, SQL Server Express, MySQL, or other ? Your opinion is welcome.

I would go for SQL Server (Express). This gives you the chance to extend your application to n folds in future with no effort in programming and by just changing the express version to the proper SQL Server.

I used TDE Certificate for my database.... Later I disabled the encryption.. But, anyhow, I cannot able to restore the database to another server.... Problem is still the log file is using the certificate... How to remove the certificate completely...

I'm doing a program in C # and i need to extract an rtf field of firebird database .Na fact the field is a string, but I think the field is a document rtf that was encoded and inserted through language delfi.

It looks, feels and smells like a string containing RTF codes; why wouldn't you just get it like any other string field and either assign it to a RichTextBox.Rtf, or write it to a file (preferably with extension .rtf)?

Hi,
I have to shift my database from Sql Server Management Studio 2008 to MsAccess 2007 database.
SSMS is not supporting .accdb extention (asking for .mdb extention) whereas my Access has .accdb extention.
How can i export the database?
Any procedure to convert from .mdb to .accdb in SSMS or .accdb to .mdb in Access.
After googling a lot i tried creating DNS (i don't know its purpose), but is not working.

* Go to the object explorer (from the menu "View", "Object Explorer")
* Go to the "database" node of the treeview and select your database.
* Right-click the node and select the item "Tasks" and from there the subitem "Export Data".
* Click next, and select the database from SQL Server that you want to export from.
* Click next, and select "Microsoft Access" as your destination. You'll probably need an existing database.
* Follow the wizard until finished with exporting

I would like to generate MAC addresses between a certain range in a stored procedure. The MAC addresses needed to be stored in a table.
Any ideas? Suggestions?

Mac address is the primary address of a Network Interface that uniquely identifies a PC.
why you need to generate MAC Addresses ?
If you need to generate unique id why not you use GUID s ...

I need to generate Mac address because we Program a Mac address in different kind of PCB's (like network cards) We want to trace the Mac address that we program in the PCB's. We get difefrent ranges that we use for that.

Hi,
Mac addresses are 8-byte (unsigned) numbers that typically get shown in hex with or without dashes in between bytes. You could hold their numeric value in a System.UInt64 (for .NET programming languages), show them with ToString("X16"), and handle them as NUMERIC in SQL according to this[^].
I think that beats the alternative of handling them as strings, since then you would have to implement some code to "hex increment" a string...
BTW: I would rather not have to store a range of MAC addresses, unless I were a manufacturer of network equipment that is.

Actually i want rows in the table in an order. How can i force the tables to keep that order? is there any command for that. Actually i am inserting the data row from asp.net front end.

By definition, you can't. A table is a collection of rows that's saved in a random order. You can read them back and order by any field that's present within that selection. You could also add a custom field to indicate the order of the rows, but you'd still need to 'order by' that particular field.
You can, alternatively, create a stored procedure that selects all your rows and sort them. Next, hide the table and give the user only access to your sproc. That would not stop anyone from re-sorting the dataset though.

The rows in a RDBMS are not interdependent, same goes for the columns. They might not be returned in the order that they're saved. Because there is no relation between the rows themselves (except that they belong to the same table) there is no order in the collection. This may vary depending on each implementation of course.
Now, that's just theory that I swallowed a long time ago. I found that the most simple table in Access has a storage-order, and I have seen people abuse it. Most of the time, it's easier to add a custom column and sort on that.
