New Case Study From MadCap Software Examines How the MadCap Scholar Program and MadCap Flare’s Modern, Intuitive Approach to Topic-Based Authoring Help Students to Understand and Implement Online Content Development Best Practices
La Jolla, CA, USA – May 2, 2013 – MadCap Software, Inc., the leader in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Visual Studio and Microsoft XPS, today announced that it has published a new case study on UC San Diego, Extension. Since 2011, the university has taken advantage of the MadCap Scholar (http://www.madcapsoftware.com/education/scholar.aspx) software licensing program to make MadCap Flare an integral part of the “Writing Online Documentation” course. The class uses MadCap Flare to teach best practices for online authoring, such as topic-based authoring and content linking. In 2012, the course was designated a requirement for obtaining the UC San Diego, Extension Technical Communications Certificate. The full case study is available at: http://www.madcapsoftware.com/casestudy/ucsdextension.aspx.
UC San Diego, Extension is dedicated to serving the critical lifelong knowledge and skill development needs of individuals and organizations by offering continued education and degree-related programs that demonstrate real-world best practices required in professional careers. In the UCSD Extension Technical Communications Certificate, "Writing Online Documentation" course, this commitment means giving students hands-on experience in applying the latest online documentation best practices. Today, UCSD Extension's authoring tool of choice is MadCap Flare. Among the key benefits:
* The MadCap Scholar program allows the university to obtain a license-key to cover the entire nine-week course, enabling MadCap Flare to be used as an integral part of the class.
* The modern, intuitive Flare user interface provides a familiar look-and-feel that makes it easier for students to learn unfamiliar concepts, such as topic-based authoring.
* MadCap support, tutorials, and the MadCap user community provide resources to help students obtain the answers they need to successfully complete their projects.
“It is often difficult for students to wrap their arms around topic-based authoring concepts because it is very different from the chapter-based approach they are more familiar with,” said Suzanne Hosie, an instructor in the UC San Diego, Extension Technical Communications program. “With Flare, they have an intuitive tool for understanding the concepts, so rather than fight with a tool, we can focus on the concepts. That's huge.“
“As one of the premier institutions for continuing education, UC San Diego, Extension plays a critical role in empowering authors to meet real-world demands of online technical communications in today’s businesses,” said Anthony Olivier, MadCap founder and CEO. “We are thrilled by the Extension’s success in taking advantage of Flare’s intuitive, state-of-the-art approach to topic-based authoring, the higher education licensing options of our MadCap Scholar program, and the wealth of practical knowledge from the extensive global MadCap user community to help students acquire the skills they need in today’s market.”

(www.madcapsoftware.com), the leader in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Visual Studio and Microsoft XPS, today announced that revenues for Q1 2013 have grown 34% over Q1 2012, continuing the profitability that the company has enjoyed since launching its flagship product Flare in 2006. In tune with its strong growth, MadCap has experienced a 178% increase in net profit on a bookings basis over the same period ending 2012. At the same time, MadCap continues to invest in resources, expanding headcount in this first quarter by 13%, with the number of employees expected to grow an additional 10% by the end of 2013.

One-day technical workshop on May 9, will explore how IT professionals can optimize PaaS implementations using the updated WSO2 Stratos 2.0 PaaS foundation
Palo Alto, CA – April 30, 2013 – Many enterprises recognize the benefits of cloud architecture and cloud services, but legal or organizational issues mean that they cannot utilize a pure public platform-as-a-service (PaaS). The alternative for these companies and governmental agencies is to implement either a private or hybrid PaaS. In a one-day hands-on workshop for cloud architects and developers, WSO2 Co-founder and CTO Paul Fremantle will explore how enterprises can build their own PaaS using the forthcoming WSO2 Stratos 2.0 open source PaaS foundation (http://wso2.com/cloud/stratos/), currently in beta.
The “Building a Private or Hybrid PaaS with Stratos 2.0” workshop will be held on Thursday, May 9, from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m., at IET London: Savoy Place in London, UK. For more information, visit: http://wso2.com/events/workshops/2013-may-london-building-a-private-or-hybrid-paas-with-stratos-2-0-workshop.
Building a Private or Hybrid PaaS with WSO2 Stratos 2.0
The hands-on technical workshop will examine how cloud architects and developers can use WSO2 Stratos 2.0 to build a PaaS that runs within a datacenter, in an existing cloud environment such as Amazon or Rackspace, or in any combination of the two. Paul will begin with an overview of WSO2 Stratos 2.0, a major update that now supports polyglot environments, such as PHP and MySQL, and can be extended to support multiple cloud models. He will then examine how WSO2 Stratos can be installed, configured and used to enable a multi-tenant PaaS. Additionally, Paul will use demonstrations on the Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2) and local systems to highlight the benefits of WSO2 Stratos and PaaS in a private, hybrid or public cloud environment.
Workshop session topics will include:
• A review of multi-tenancy and multi-tenant models.
• An overview of elastic load balancing.
• Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) configuration and how to work across heterogeneous IaaS environments, including OpenStack, VMware vSphere, Amazon EC2, and Rackspace.
• How to plugin different runtimes using the WSO2 Stratos 2.0 cartridge model.
• How the new WSO2 App Factory enterprise DevOps platform fits into the WSO2 Stratos model.
Workshop Presenter
Paul Fremantle is WSO2 co-founder and CTO, co-chair of the OASIS Web Services Reliable eXchange Technical Committee, and vice president of the Apache Synapse Project. Recognized by InfoWorld as a Top 25 CTO, he was responsible for simultaneously leading development of the groundbreaking WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus and Apache Synapse ESB. The software component vendor Text Control recently released version X9 of the word processing component family TX Text Control and the brand new product TX Barcode .NET.
TX Text Control X9 introduces improved headers and footers with odd and even pages. Additionally, a new frame style is available for activated headers and footers. A dividing line has a label indicating the type of the header or footer (even, odd, first page) and the label displays the current section number if the header or footer is connected to the previous header or footer. This gives the user a much better overview of the current document settings and layout. Often inserted in the header or footer, Text Control now supports additional features for showing page numbers which are now MS Word compatible. For each section in the document, page numbers can either be continued from the previous section or can be restarted with a certain start number. Also a new type of page numbers has been implemented to show the total number of pages.
TX Text Control .NET for Windows Forms X9 now implements built-in, ready-to-use and customizable context menus. Depending on the area where the right mouse button has been clicked, a menu with standard options for this area is shown. The context menus can be fully customized and in order to provide these ready-to-use context menus, TX Text Control .NET for Windows Forms X9 now ships with more than 400 large and small icons that can be used in the applications.
With the release of TX Text Control X9, Microsoft Word Content Controls are now supported and a brand new Table Dialog was implemented. Additionally, TX Text Control .NET for Windows Forms X9 now has a control character which shows the anchor position of an anchored object. The MailMerge Class now supports charts and barcodes natively, which is very important for Reporting.
Finally, Text Control released a brand new component for implementing barcodes into business applications. Using TX Barcode .NET for Windows Forms, it is possible to add fast and accurate 1D and 2D barcodes to .NET based applications. TX Barcode .NET for Windows Forms has been specifically designed for the requirements when integrating barcodes into documents, such as invoices.

What's New in this Release?
This month’s release includes a new save format for greater fidelity when saving a document as HTML and improvements to the API. This month’s release contains a brand new save format: HtmlFixed. The HtmlFixed format provides the ability to render a document to HTML while preserving almost all formatting and structure found in the original input document. This is a great development as traditionally Word to HTML conversion does not yield a result that looks exactly like the original document, this is not caused by any issue with the way Aspose.Words converts Word documents to HTML, but is to be expected as due to the differences of the two formats. Not all elements in Word documents can be directly represented in an HTML document and thus these elements may be distorted or removed. Use the newly added ExtrusionEnabled and ShadowEnabled properties on Shape class to detect whether a shape is formatted as 3D (extrusion) or with a shadow. Several fixed paged formats display headings and bookmarks in a tree based display for easy access, for example, the navigation panel found with most PDF viewers. In this release the API to work with outline levels has been improved, an introduction of the standard OutlineOptions class replaces the individual members which were previously used to set outline levels for each SaveOptions class. In addition to this, through the use of the new BookmarksOutlineLevelCollection class you can now set the outline level of individual bookmarks. The web is the most rapidly growing marketplace for the spread of new ideas and technologies, making it a fertile ground for new businesses and products. However, web languages lag behind in this struggle, failing to provide the power necessary to build more complex web applications required for fully featured services. The upcoming release of the HTML Artist .NET library seeks to bring the full power of .NET development to this arena, allowing developers to quickly and easily deploy dynamic solutions that meet the next generation of web standards.
SautinSoft´s upcoming HTML Artist .NET library is a definitive step towards a new standard in web application development. With the release of this library, traditional software developers have more opportunities than ever to build and edit dynamic web content with a scalable infrastructure that delivers superior performance to traditional web languages. Unlike native web content, applications written with .NET and the HTML Artist library are built from the ground up with the stability and resilience of the .NET platform.
This new library offers more than just performance benefits. The familiar C# syntax of HTML Artist .NET is comfortable for programmers versed in this popular language, greatly speeding their development process and enabling them to be more productive on the web. With the ability to dynamically change tags, attributes, and values, HTML Artist .NET has all the power of a native web language with none of the additional costs in learning. All markup generated by the library is designed to be fully compliant with HTML and XML standards from HTML 1.0 through HTML5, ensuring that it will be rendered consistently across browsers.
HTML Artist .NET is in the final stages of development, but SautinSoft has granted developers the opportunity to become early adopters of this new technology. By signing up now, these individuals receive the latest builds of HTML Artist .NET so that they may begin working with this new technology immediately. The members of this group also provide valuable input into the development cycle, making decisions that will shape the final functionality of this tool in ways that maximize its utility for developers with their specific needs. To join this exclusive group, interested parties can contact SautinSoft at http://www.sautinsoft.com/clean-up-html-xml-code/html-and-xml-beautifier.php and request a beta release today.

La Jolla, CA, USA – April 24, 2013 – MadCap Software, Inc., the leader in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Visual Studio and Microsoft XPS, today announced that it has published a new case study on ARCOM. The leader in specifications for the construction industry, ARCOM uses MadCap Flare to facilitate contributions from its specification writing and software development teams, and publish print and Web content from the same Flare project. The full ARCOM case study is available at: http://www.madcapsoftware.com/casestudy/arcom.aspx.
ARCOM is dedicated to helping design and building professionals easily produce the most accurate specifications in the construction industry. Since 1995, it has published MasterSpec®, the industry’s preeminent master guide specification system, on behalf of The American Institute of Architects (AIA). Additionally, ARCOM delivers the SpecWare® suite of software productivity tools for taking advantage of MasterSpec by automating construction specification development and editing. To help customers of its SpecWare tools, the company publishes Web-based Help and print documentation using MadCap Flare. Among the key benefits ARCOM has realized:
• Flare's ability to import Microsoft Word lets ARCOM's specification writing and software development teams contribute content for documentation and Web-based Help systems using a familiar application.
• Single-sourcing allows various Help versions and product guides for SpecWare software tools to be published from the same Flare project.
• Separation of style from content makes it easy to adjust formatting without affecting text, facilitating the ability to maintain the ARCOM brand.
• Native mobile publishing in Flare enabled rapid delivery of a prototype mobile Help system, laying the groundwork for ARCOM to offer mobile Help for all of its software tools.
“At the heart of it, our customers rely on us to provide the tools and accurate information they need for their construction projects to succeed. With Flare, creating the content to help them get the most out of these tools is easier than ever,” said Gregory Owens, ARCOM senior quality assurance engineer. “From our first trial period we were able to do everything that we wanted to do and then some, and as we grow our requirements, Flare continues to deliver.”
“As the AIA’s designated provider of its preeminent MasterSpec specifications system, ARCOM places a top priority on delivering information that is informative, intuitive, and actionable,” said Anthony Olivier, MadCap founder and CEO. “We are thrilled by ARCOM’s success in using Flare to facilitate collaboration among its many specifications writers with Word import support, as well as enable single-source publishing to customers’ format of choice—whether in print or on the Web.”

Technical webinars will explore the use of SSO solutions based open industry standards, including WSO2 Identity Server, to ensure enterprise security and identity management
Palo Alto, CA – April 24, 2013 – Today, companies widely use username/password-based authentication to ensure secure, private access to the vast numbers of applications running on the Web, cloud and mobile devices. However, the cracks in this authentication approach continue to widen as these applications are accessed by billions of users worldwide. This is leading more organizations to rely on single sign-on (SSO) solutions to successfully manage access across multiple related, but independent, software systems. WSO2 will conduct a two-part webinar series that examines how SSO technologies, including WSO2 Identity Server (http://wso2.com/products/identity-server/), effectively address today’s authentication challenges. The sessions include:
• A Walk Through SSO: Tuesday, April 30, 2013
• SSO with the WSO2 Identity Server: Wednesday, May 8, 2013
Each session will run from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. To learn more and register, visit http://wso2.com/landing/wso2-identity-management-security-webinar-series.

This webinar will introduce SSO systems and examine how they solve common authentication and identity issues. It also will explore how SSO technologies enable rich features, such as identity delegation and identity federation. Additionally, this session will review available SSO technologies and solution patterns. To learn more, visit http://wso2.org/library/webinars/2013/04/walk-through-sso.
May 8: SSO with WSO2 Identity Server
Increasingly, various technologies have emerged to support and extend SSO-based identity management, including the OpenID identity framework, Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) 2.0, Kerberos protocol, and WS-Security specifications. This webinar will examine various SSO technologies on the market, evaluating their pros and cons. The session also will review common SSO-related identity management issues and discuss how to implement SSO solutions using the WSO2 Identity Server. To learn more, visit http://wso2.org/library/webinars/2013/05/sso-wso2-identity-server.

Research shows that unit testing is often dropped after the first difficult experience.
New online community will provide support to get through early unit testing challenges.
Tel-Aviv, April 17, 2013 – Typemock, (http://www.typemock.com/) the leading provider and pioneer of easy unit testing solutions, has announced the launch of an online community to assist developers struggling with the early challenges of adopting unit testing in their workplace. The numerous benefits of unit testing have been well documented and extensively written about but surveys conducted by Typemock show that in many cases, unit testing is dropped after the first negative experience despite their financial and professional value and before its benefits become apparent.
Typemock online support community will be there to help programmers get through the initial challenges of unit testing. A LinkedIn group called “Unit Testing Support – Experts Answering Your Questions" has been established, in which both experienced users as well as Typemock experts and evangelists will provide answers and support for unit testing adopters.
In order to help other programmers, Typemock has created a platform in which the programming community can share unit testing stories that tell the tale of difficult beginnings and happy endings. Typemock has launched a special contest on their website, where programmers can share their “Unit Testing Horror Stories" ( http://www.typemock.com/unit_testing_horror_stories ) - personal testimonials of obstacles programmers had to be overcome to stick with unit testing. Developers who submit the best stories will win prizes and get a chance to become Typemock Evangelists.
“We at Typemock are above all developers who believe in agile methodologies and the benefits of unit testing” said Eli Lopian, CEO of Typemock. “Many of us have gone through challenging experiences while adopting unit testing, we believe that sharing these anecdotes can provide support and encouragement to others who find themselves facing similar obstacles. Typemock’s charter has been from the beginning, to promote unit testing, this Support Community is another way to do that.”
Get involved in the Unit Testing Community. Join the Unit Testing LinkedIn group here (http://www.linkedin.com/groups/Unit-...trk=anet_ug_hm ) and submit your Unit Testing Horror Story here (http://www.typemock.com/unit_testing_horror_stories ).

WSO2 leadership team will conduct a three-part webinar series, April 23-May 7, that examines the concept of “new IT” in building an agile IT infrastructure that enables an innovation-driven organization.
The webinars will be led by Paul Fremantle, WSO2 co-founder and CTO; John Mathon, WSO2 vice president of product marketing; and Chris Haddad, WSO2 vice president of technology evangelism. Together, they will explore how organizations can adopt the new IT concept, taking advantage of WSO2 to invest in their businesses’ IT domains. The sessions include:
• Reinventing Enterprise IT Around APIs and Apps: Tuesday, April 23, 2013
• The New IT - Your Milestone Plan: Wednesday, May 1, 2013

April 23: Reinventing Enterprise IT Around APIs and Apps
IT organizations face a deluge of big data, strategic business demands, and application requirements; a tempest of outdated IT infrastructure, processes, and tooling; and a breakup of traditional business models and interaction patterns. This webinar will examine how to survive the storm, transform the IT organization into a rapid response team, empower business teams to safely satisfy their IT needs, and enable the IT group to become the solutions provider of choice. Using customer success stories to illustrate key concepts, John Mathon will describe how:
• Business users can safely and efficiently fulfill their IT needs.
• IT can efficiently support the long tail of user strategy and priorities.
• Infrastructure, processes, and tooling can consistently and automatically enforce compliance and governance policies.
John Mathon is WSO2 vice president of product marketing. For more than 20 years, he has started companies, created numerous patents, and served as a visionary for enterprise software. As a founder of TIBCO software and inventor of the publish/subscribe paradigm, he helped establish TIBCO as the world’s leading middleware provider. John also started Slam Dunk Networks (now known as Cloud Prime) and Mathon Systems in the DLP space, and he helped CA Technologies move to the cloud and software-as-a-service.

May 1: The New IT - Your Milestone Plan
New IT is a model for building an agile IT infrastructure by pulling together features such as lightweight integration, APIs, and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) to enabled innovation in a structured enterprise-grade approach. The challenge is translating this vision into an actionable plan. In this webinar, Paul Fremantle addresses how to move from an existing IT infrastructure into a responsive, agile, cloud-native approach. Using an agile mindset, this session will break this approach down into achievable milestones that allow an organization to plan out a model for:
• Using API management (http://wso2.com/products/api-manager/) both internally and externally to supercharge integration.
• Adding cloud-based DevOps processes to enable innovation.
• How to integrate PaaS into your environment incrementally.
Paul has played a pioneering role in open source development, beginning with the original Apache SOAP project and his role in leading IBM's involvement in the Axis C/C++ project.

May 7: New IT Steps to Accelerate Agility
Queuing, waiting, and the status quo doesn’t fit well with today’s “now generation’. Business stakeholders, who drive revenue growth and customer retention, desire to rapidly seize opportunity and market share. They often view IT timeframes and capabilities as a poor match for today’s fast business-pace. A New IT model is required to reduce delivery time and accelerate business agility. In this session, Chris Haddad will describe:
• How IT leaders can quantify business agility.
• Why DevOps (http://wso2.com/cloud/app-factory/), PaaS, and enterprise app stores influence business agility.
• Where to take pragmatic new IT steps toward the organization’s roadmap milestones.
Chris Haddad, WSO2 vice president of technology evangelism, works closely with developers, architects, and C-level executives to increase WSO2 technology adoption, improve the middleware platform, and maximize customer value. Prior to joining WSO2, Chris led research teams as a research vice president at the Burton Group and Gartner advising Fortune 500 enterprise organizations and technology infrastructure vendors.
