New case study discusses how WSO2 strategic partner Yenlo implemented WSO2 ESB along with other WSO2 Carbon middleware to help SEIN more effectively exchange data among clinics, insurers, and partners
Palo Alto, CA – January 27, 2014 – WSO2 today announced that The Epilepsy Institutes of the Netherlands Foundation (Stichting Epilepsie Instellingen Nederland, or SEIN), has implemented WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware in combination with SUSE Linux to improve its information flow and integrate processes internally and externally with other organizations in the healthcare industry. The SEIN solution, which was implemented by WSO2 strategic partner Yenlo, includes WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (WSO2 ESB), WSO2 API Manager (WSO2 API), and WSO2 Business Activity Monitor (WSO2 BAM).
The implementation was outlined in a new case study from WSO2, which can be downloaded at http://wso2.com/casestudies/epilepsy-center-improves-sharing-of-patient-data-with-wso2-carbon
Integrating Systems in the Highly Regulated Healthcare Industry
Based in Heemstede, the Netherlands, SEIN specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, support and research of epilepsy through its three clinical centers, 12 outpatient clinics, and other residential and special education facilities throughout the country. To perform the highly regulated exchange of information that allows SEIN to carry on its work—for example, sharing data with hospitals and insurance companies—SEIN asked Yenlo, WSO2’s world-wide implementation partner, to develop a solution for improving information flow and integrating processes.
The new case study from WSO2 examines the integration challenges facing SEIN, as well as the solution architecture Yenlo implemented for SEIN. Among the topics covered in the case study are:
• The decision factors for deploying a 100% open source integration platform based on WSO2 ESB and SUSE Linux.
• How the implementation enables SEIN to run critical business processes and manage patient information according to the requirements of the Health Level Seven (HL7) standard.
• The role of WSO2 ESB in SEIN’s service-oriented architecture (SOA), serving as the central backbone for mediation and transformation.
• The role of WSO2 API Manager in publishing APIs and managing developers’ access.
• The use of WSO2 BAM to monitor the SEIN system’s performance metrics.
“The WSO2-SUSE combination implemented for us by Yenlo provides a centralized platform for exchanging data by integrating previously disparate information storage systems,” said Jean Willem Barzilay, chairman of the board of directors and responsible for all business units within SEIN. “Moreover, standardizing on open source software naturally entails cost reduction. From day one we have benefited from the user friendly solutions of WSO2 and SUSE.”
“We knew at the start that we wanted to build a solution for SEIN that could grow and adapt to its changing needs, while still adhering to strict requirements for the exchange of healthcare data,” said Ruben van der Zwan, CEO of Yenlo. “Using WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware and SUSE Linux, we’ve met these goals, and today SEIN has a platform that offers the flexibility and ease of integration to address whatever the future may bring.”
“As one of the world’s leading institutes for the treatment and research of epilepsy, SEIN regularly coordinates processes with other healthcare organizations,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO. “We are thrilled by the success of Yenlo and SEIN in using our WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware and SUSE Linux to securely integrate internal and third-party systems to facilitate SEIN’s online collaboration. It highlights the value of an open source, open standards approach to integrating the many systems that link processes across an enterprise’s ecosystem.”

WSO2’s Eclipse-based IDE lets IT professionals develop, debug and deploy composite applications and Web services on-premises and in the cloud from one environment
Palo Alto, CA – January 23, 2014 – More enterprises are deploying their composite applications and Web services both on servers and in the cloud. In the process, they often face a dizzying array of tools required to support different deployment scenarios, adding complexity and redundancy to IT projects. By contrast, the WSO2 Developer Studio (http://wso2.com/products/developer-studio/) integrated development environment (IDE) uniquely enables developers to write an application once and then deploy it on servers, in the cloud, or in a hybrid environment. Today, WSO2 builds on these capabilities with the availability of WSO2 Developer Studio 3.5.
The Eclipse-based WSO2 Developer Studio 3.5 IDE adds significant new functionality to facilitate cloud integration using the connectors recently launched with WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (WSO2 ESB) 4.8, as well as support application life-cycle management (ALM) and DevOps with tooling for WSO2 App Factory and enhanced Apache Maven integration. The latest release of WSO2 Developer Studio also enhances JavaScript development, support for development using popular SOAP and REST APIs, and Web services security.
Server and Cloud Deployment from One IDE
Version 3.5 builds on WSO2 Developer Studio 3.1, which provides the tools for creating service-oriented architecture (SOA) applications, RESTful services, and composite applications based on the cloud-enabled WSO2 Carbon (http://wso2.com/products/carbon/) platform. With WSO2’s IDE, developers can create a Carbon Application (C-App) that includes services running on multiple WSO2 servers—for example WSO2 ESB, WSO2 Governance Registry, and WSO2 Application Server. After it is tested, the C-App then can be deployed into production on servers or in the cloud using a WSO2 Carbon Archive (CAR).
“As more of our Global 1000 customers implement their applications and services across a range of on-premises and cloud deployment models, WSO2 Developer Studio has become their IDE of choice to facilitate these deployments,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO. “Version 3.5 of WSO2 Developer Studio builds on our commitment to support the demands facing these enterprises by providing tooling that brings a new level of ease in cloud integration, enables more robust ALM and DevOps, and enhances the experiences of developers in using their preferred languages and APIs.”
Richer Integration Tooling for WSO2 ESB
WSO2 Developer Studio 3.5 adds two significant capabilities that enable developers simplify their cloud integration and take advantage of popular WSO2 ESB functions within the IDE.
Cloud integration via connectors – with version 3.5, WSO2 Developer Studio adds tooling to help developers leverage the connectors recently introduced with WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus 4.8, including Salesforce.com, Google Spreadsheets, Twilio, Twitter, and JIRA. The tooling also supports connectors that are custom-built by WSO2 ESB consumers using the WSO2 connector kit. These connectors provide the foundation for both cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-enterprise integrations, while the tooling automates much of the process, eliminating hours of coding.
Developers can import the connector they want to use into WSO2 Developer Studio, which then provides the list of the connector’s operations on the mediator palette being used in the WSO2 ESB developer project. From there, developers can click on a desired option and drop it into the flow. Developers can combine multiple operations from multiple connectors along the request, response, and error paths, and the ordering of the connector operations can correspond to the desired business logic. Additionally, connector operations can be combined with the regular mediators in a mediation flow to fine-tune the business logic processing.
User interface enhancements to the ESB graphical editor facilitate the development mediation flows. A new visual tooling icon design helps developers to pick the right mediator while designing the ESB flow with minimal effort. The shape, color and the picture of the icon help developers pick mediators at a glance, removing the need to memorize mediator details. The icons also enable developers and other stakeholders to understand the sequences of proxy services at a glance, without having to read lengthy documentation. Finally, smooth movement and alignment of the icons along the sequences result in a clean layout that further enhances the readability of the resulting ESB flow design.
Support for ALM and DevOps
WSO2 Developer Studio 3.5 strengthens support for ALM and DevOps with new tooling for WSO2 App Factory and enhanced Apache Maven integration.
Complete tooling support for WSO2 App Factory facilitates the ability to manage the application development life cycle. A shared, self-service, multi-tenant and elastic enterprise DevOps platform, WSO2 App Factory empowers teams to collaboratively create, develop and deploy enterprise applications into cloud environments. New tooling in WSO2 Developer 3.5 provides the ability to check in, checkout, deploy and view build logs of a WSO2 App Factory application inside a single perspective (an Eclipse project type visualization). As a result, developers can focus on the development of business logic, without having to switch across perspectives.
Integration with Apache Maven, the open source build manager for Java projects, enables teams to automate builds with Maven, saving both developer and DevOps cycles. WSO2 Developer Studio 3.5 enhances this integration with performance enhancements to existing Maven plugins. It also adds new Maven plugins for recently introduced projects, including a new quality of service (QoS) Maven plug-in, which builds and packages a QoS descriptor for services with Maven, and Jaggery, a pure JavaScript server-side scripting engine.
Enhanced Support for JavaScript, SOAP and REST APIs, and Web Service Security
With version 3.5, WSO2 Developer Studio enhances tooling for application and Web service development, as well as strengthening Web services security.
JavaScript development is streamlined with three new capabilities in the WSO2 Developer Studio Editor supporting the Jaggery JavaScript server-side scripting engine. First, syntax error checking frees developers from having to check the documentation to find the right syntax. Second, Jaggery-related code assistance reduces errors in development, which can be carried over into deployment. Finally, Jaggery debugger integration allows users to easily debug, locate and fix issues they encounter in Jaggery applications.
Enhanced support for JAX-WS JAX-RS and Axis2 translates into enhanced service implementation models using the preferred APIs in the Java world for SOAP and REST style services.
Web services security is enhanced in WSO2 Developer Studio 3.5 with the addition of quality of service (QoS) enforcement. As a result, DevOps professionals no longer have to worry about accidentally deploying unsecured services into production.
Availability and Support
WSO2 Developer Studio 3.5 is available today both as a standalone Eclipse-based product and as a set of Eclipse plug-ins. Like all WSO2 middleware products, it is a fully open source solution that does not carry any licensing fees. It is released under the Apache License 2.0 and Eclipse Public License. WSO2 offers a range of service and support options for WSO2 Developer Studio, including development support.

DataNumen has released DataNumen SQL Recovery version 2.1, a Windows application that repairs corrupted or damaged .MDF and .NDF files created by Microsoft SQL Server and similar software products. Improvements in version 2.1 include a dramatic reduction in memory utilized during the file recovery process, a significant improvement in file recovery speed, and support for SQL Server 2014.
Microsoft´s SQL Server software includes several tools to prevent data corruption, including snapshot replication, transactional replication, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, failover clustering, and database mirroring. Sometimes, however, Microsoft´s built-in utilities are not able to prevent .MDF files and their associated .NDF files from becoming corrupt. Using advanced proprietary technologies to scan the damaged database files, DataNumen SQL Recovery recovers as many files as possible, and minimizes data loss.
Unlike most data recovery software, the demo version of DataNumen SQL Recovery will scan the damaged .MDF and .NDF files and identify exactly the information that it can recover. Before purchasing the SQL recovery software, users will be able to view all of the recovered contents in a preview window, and know exactly how successful their data recovery efforts will be when they install the full version of the application. In addition, DataNumen will refund a customer´s order if any competitive SQL data recovery program can recover more data than DataNumen SQL Recovery. The software works with all modern versions of SQL files, including files created by SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, and 2014.
The software repairs both the structure and data in the SQL tables. With the exception of XML data, DataNumen SQL Recovery repairs all aspects of a damaged SQL database. The application recovers sparse columns, deleted records, and SQL files as large as 16TB. In addition to creating databases in .MDF format, the software can also create a plain text file containing SQL statements that can reconstruct the database.
Registered users can run the software in batch mode to fix any number of damaged SQL files. DataNumen SQL Recovery works with modern drives as well as older media such as CDROMs, floppy disks, and Zip disks.
Database administrators and law enforcement officials use DataNumen SQL Recovery as a forensic tool to identify and repair damaged SQL files. The software is fully integrated with the Windows Explorer context (right-click) menu, allowing users to initiate the repair process quickly and easily. Drag and drop operations are also supported.
DataNumen SQL Recovery version 2.1 runs under Windows XP/Vista/7/8 as well as Windows Server 2003/2008/2012, and costs $299.95(US) for a single-user license. Multi-user discounts are available. For more information, visit http://www.datanumen.com/sql-recovery/

Program Verification Systems announces its new product, CppCat. A plugin for Microsoft Visual Studio, this tool detects many errors that standard debug solutions often miss. Based on the acknowledged PVS-Studio static code analyzer, CppCat inherits its advantages and delivers hassle free debugging in the most convenient form and with very affordable price tag.
Static code analysis is an admitted debugging method that effectively allows revealing and eliminating many problems in a source code. Unfortunately, the build-in debuggers cannot always provide high-quality detection of logical errors, misprints or incorrect use of typical library procedures, which are definitely among the most hard to track bugs.
CppCat, a spiritual heir to Program Verification Systems´ award-winning PVS-Studio, integrates to Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, 2012 or 2013 and performs efficient debugging of C/C++ programs. Being a static code analyzer, this tool is a Microsoft Visual Studio plugin, and therefore it provides a programmer with a quick way to locate errors in the code in addition to those highlighted by the compiler.
The main advantage of the plugin is 100% hands-free functioning. This means, whenever a given file is recompiled, CppCat automatically launches the check for that file. At the same time it allows to analyze the entire code of the application for errors and potentially erroneous fragments.
"CppCat is fast, powerful and extremely affordable. For $250, not only does a developer get a full-featured and easy to use debug solution, but he also receives a bug-free reliable code", says Evgeniy Ryzhkov, General Director at Program Verification Systems. "With all the power of our PVS-Studio, CppCat is a lightweight tool embodying our entire experience in making developer instruments".
Pricing and availability
CppCat is a plugin for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, 2012 or 2013. The price of a one-year license is merely $250 per developer per work seat. The renewal of the license costs $200.

Additionally, Sumedha is an active committer on the Apache Axis2 project.
About WSO2 API Manager
WSO2 API Manager is the first 100% open source API management product to combine easy, managed API access with full API governance and analysis. As the first API management product to offer an API Store, it lets IT organizations set up their own Apple or Google Marketplace-like store where developers can easily subscribe to and consume APIs. Meanwhile it provides API publishers with complete API lifecycle governance—from creating to publishing, deprecating and retiring APIs—as well as analytics and metrics to support decision-making and enforce service-level agreement (SLA) policies.
WSO2 API Manager is built on the same WSO2 technology used by enterprises around the world, including a major online retailer that is handling more than 1 billion API calls per day. Providing full multi-tenancy, it runs directly on server hardware or in a virtualized environment, such as an Amazon or VMware cloud, bringing the efficiencies of multi-tenancy and self-service to on-premises deployments. Additionally, the cloud-ready WSO2 API Manager software can plug into the WSO2 platform as a service (PaaS) foundation to operate as part of a PaaS, adding cloud-native capabilities, such as elastic scaling, expanded self-service provisioning, metering, billing, and storage, among others.
About WSO2

Durandal Kickstarter
Durandal : Single Page Apps Done Right
Durandal is a lightweight JavaScript framework designed to make building Single Page Applications (SPAs) simple and elegant. It has strong support for MVC, MVP and MVVM so that no matter what type of front end architecture you prefer, Durandal can handle the task. With RequireJS as its base and a thin layer of conventions, Durandal can provide amazing productivity while helping you to maintain SOLID coding practices. Pair that with out-of-the-box support for rich UI composition, modal dialogs, messaging, widgets, transitions, routing and more....and there's no doubt you'll be able to build whatever apps you can imagine.
While Durandal has only been publicly available for about a year now, the community has grown at a breakneck pace. As a result, we’ve launched a Kickstarter to help us accomplish some amazing things in 2014. I’d like to take a few minutes to share our planned initiatives and invite you to join us in shaping the future of the web. Our goals break down into four categories: releases, tooling, training and the next generation.
Releases
Durandal had 16 releases in 2013. That’s 2 major releases, 2 minor releases, 4 patches and 8 pre-releases. It was a ton of work, but it was worth it and we were able to maintain a rigorous adherence to semantic versioning principles along the way as well as provide upgrade guides to our developers. But we aren’t satisfied with that. 2014 has to be better. We want to be able to address bugs faster and get release packages out sooner. We want to be able to rev the framework in a non-breaking way so that we can better meet the increasing demands of our customers as they explore ever challenging landscapes. We want to have richer, task-based documentation that helps developers fall into “the pit of success”. All this requires enormous time and effort. We are up to the task but we need your support.
Tooling
Traditional web development tooling has come a long way over the years. But Single Page Apps are so new that the tooling tends to be fairly primitive or non-existent. Durandal has a good start in this area due its collection of starter kits geared to various build platforms. But, we consider that a bare minimum and it falls far short of our vision. In 2014 we want to take things a little further by putting some more essential pieces in place. First, we want to improve our own build tool, Weyland, by fixing some bugs and opening up new scenarios. Second, we want to add better support for Grunt, a very popular JavaScript build tool. Finally, we want to create a dev-time tool that monitors your views and modules for changes while you work. When a view changes, it will update the html "in place" inside your app without needing to restart it or refresh the browser. If your code changes, it will automatically refresh the browser for you. We know this will change the way many build apps. There will be no more “design-time”. The running app will be the design surface. We’ve wanted to build this for a long time now. We know how to do it, but we need your support in order to carve out the time to make it happen.
Training
The web is changing. In much the way that AJAX transformed the way web apps were written in the last decade, SPA frameworks are changing things today. It’s an exciting time with amazing possibilities, but many developers are left having to “figure it out” by themselves. There are precious few resources on building these apps, and among the resources that do exist, many are poor or incomplete. The Durandal project aims to change that. We want to produce three full series in 2014. Each series will take you through building a different SPA from end-to-end. No stone will be left unturned. From data-binding, validation and dirty tracking to routing, history, pub/sub and UI architecture patterns, these courses will not only give you knowledge but walk you through real scenarios and empower you to create awesome applications for the future. We’re confident that this will be some of the best JavaScript learning materials on the web. Want to see one of the apps we’ll teach you how to build? Check this out. We want you to have it. Will you join us?
NextGen
Durandal is opening up amazing new opportunities for developers today. We’re working hard on our current versions and that’s a big part of our plans for 2014. But we’re also thinking about the future. Right now groups like ECMA and W3C are planning a host of new technologies for the browser; everything from new JavaScript language features to improvements in the networking stack to enhancements and extensions of the DOM. It could make the browser into an awesome development platform...or it could destroy it. How do we know we can use what they are designing? How do we know they won’t favor a certain company’s framework or “way”? How do we know that they’ll even enable good web development practices that have emerged over the years? I’d hate to be stuck with bad or practically useless technology when amazing opportunities exist. Durandal can help with this. In 2014 we want to build an alternate implementation of Durandal on top of emerging browser technologies. We want to put these specs to the test and provide the standards groups will real case studies. As it turns out, the ECMA and W3C groups really want this. They’ve been asking for it because they don’t want to mess up. They want to help web developers get what they really need. As a result the Durandal project has had some great interactions with these groups and has already been able to affect changes and improvements in some specs. But, we need time to really dig in and re-imagine the framework in terms of things like Web Components, Object.observe and ES6. With your help we can build an awesome NextGen app framework and provide the needed feedback that the standards bodies desire. Check out this video that demonstrates our progress to date.
Taking Action
The Durandal project has helped thousands of developers build awesome apps. As you can see, we’ve got big plans. But, we need your help. We hope you’ll take some time to look at our Kickstarter. There’s some cool rewards available and some great opportunities for individuals, consultants and large organizations. It’s a great way to support open source, help build the web and walk away with some excellent perks. What do you say? Will you help us make history?
