Quote: Earlier this summer, the Summit supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Lab in Tennessee set about crunching data on more than 40,000 genes from 17,000 genetic samples in an effort to better understand Covid-19. Summit is the second-fastest computer in the world, but the process — which involved analyzing 2.5 billion genetic combinations — still took more than a week. [^]Quote: When Summit was done, researchers analyzed the results. It was, in the words of Dr. Daniel Jacobson, lead researcher and chief scientist for computational systems biology at Oak Ridge, a “eureka moment.” The computer had revealed a new theory about how Covid-19 impacts the body: the bradykinin hypothesis. The hypothesis provides a model that explains many aspects of Covid-19, including some of its most bizarre symptoms. It also suggests 10-plus potential treatments, many of which are already FDA approved. Jacobson’s group published their results in a paper in the journal eLife in early July.

That is a long article, but it is really fantastic. Very interesting that it contains theories for all of the different and odd symptoms. Really great read. Thanks for sharing.

Nearly 16 years ago I complained that Windows is completely missing the TextMode boat. It's 2020 and it's TIME FOR TEXT MODE BABY. They found the replacement for WPF!

We are going to need another replacement too... for "WTF"
they are forcing its usage by the people with common sense so bad lately, that it will probably break soon.
(Or maybe not... maybe it really is true that common sense is not that common )

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I don't understand the desire of everyone to go BACKWARDS in technology. No matter who thinks it's cool, it's a bad f*ckin idea. I was developing when text mode \was all we had, and it was a true pain in the ass.
If this is in pursuit of Linux compatibility, they (Microsoft) should stop dicking around and make WPF work in Linux. I, for one, only write command line/text mode apps when I have absolutely no choice (like Windows services).

The Justice Department opened its probe into Google last June, reportedly with a focus on its massive search business and other parts of the company. I'm guessing they were using Bing to search for evidence?

Scientists around the world are working on a quantum internet to communicate by teleportation. But what is the quantum internet, when will it be ready, and who will be using it? If you think you understand the quantum internet, you don't understand the quantum internet?

Expressive Pixels is a Windows 10 authoring platform focused on animated visualizations now available for free in the Microsoft Store. You can have your very own icons!
What the what-what?
1. Someone had to think this was a good idea
2. They convinced others - there's a "project team"
3. People wrote the code for it
4. People designed the hardware for it
5. The article was written about it
(yeah, #6. I posted this, but only out of spite)

Is this what happens when you have over a billion dollars to spend, and a big pile of coke?
Or maybe we are both wrong. Deaf people are going to be drawn to concerts so they can see which bell is being rung. Oh wait, maybe that involves more coke.

I suppose this is kind of related with the new features of two messages below (GIF search)
I wonder how many things are going to get broken to make this happen...

While highlighting new development work on Microsoft's F# programming language alongside the latest .NET 5 preview, the company announced that, except for one minor enhancement, "we are finished with F# 5!" And so am I (even if I never started)
I don't think the wording on that announcement is the best they could have done.
