Unionization isn't a new idea for the game development industry, but it is a particularly hot and contentious topic right now. "It ain't quite this simple, so I better explain just why you got to ride on the union train."
"Look for
the union label
when you are blasting
those zergs..."
(and yes, I probably could have re-used the "now you have two problems" quote)

My heart breaks every time I see game developers walking our of their offices, their bodies so battered they have a hard time getting into their cars and driving their condos where they struggle to move the mice on their gaming rigs.
On the other hand, they'll now be able to stand up straight in the unemployment line.

When C# 7.0 introduced pattern matching we said that we expected to add more patterns in more places in the future. That time has come! We’re adding what we call recursive patterns, as well as a more compact expression form of switch statements called (you guessed it!) switch expressions. 'Some people, when confronted with a problem, think "I know, I'll use regular expressions." Now they have two problems.'
Yes, I know these aren't regex (thank DOG)

All the hype around artificial intelligence misunderstands what intelligence really is. "The surest way to be deceived is to think oneself more clever than others."

This release contains a number of improvements and additions to the core experience and different development areas, many of which are a result of your direct feedback. For those who must have the latest and greatest (to some definition of 'greatest')

IBM CEO Ginni Rometty said at the World Economic Forum's 2019 annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, that the most pressing issue of the "Fourth Industrial Revolution" is the "skills crisis" that would leave workers behind. Degrees? We don't need no stinkin' degrees!

Was going to write snark, but she made a really good point. That said, she needs to direct this at HR, who are the ones most consumed by The Degree.

Cool! Business Insider has decided to obey European law, so I can unblock them!
I agree entirely with Joe. When I send details of people I need to HR, I never, ever demand degrees, because I know that a lot of the best people I've worked with never got one, but HR always adds the requirement to the job spec.
I have to pound the fact that I want to see people with skills, not degrees, into the tiny brains of almost every HR department I work with.
So no snark from me, either.
Big Blue and no snark really burns, damnit!

Five+ years of experience is often accepted as an alternative to the degree requirement.
For instance, I don't have a degree, but I have 40 years of dev experience.

As long as you don't get screened out by knee-jerk robots in HR, that's fine.
If I found that the CV of someone of your abilities had not been passed on to me, I'd blow a fuse.

A Bobby Tables attack?
Really?!?
The Linux "We're as Safe as Houses" brigade left everyone open to Bobby Tables attacks???!!!
Actually, it's just the kind of bollix-up I'd expect. People who are too busy being clever make the stupidest and most obvious mistakes.
