Since 2008, vulnerability has left apps and hardware open to remote hijacking. It's only been there since 2008. I'm sure no one is using it.

A function known as getaddrinfo()
Geez, who writes like that?

It is very common in C libraries.

The cumulative update not only knocks out PCs' default settings, it prevents users from resetting them. By "default", we mean, "don't change these"

Guess I must be one of the lucky ones. My W10 PC installed that update last week, and it hasn't touched my default applications or file associations.

Nope - Firefox. And VLC as the default media player.
And it's an upgrade from 8.1, not a clean install.
The defaults haven't changed since I set them when I upgraded.

You should report this as a bug to Redmond....

I updated lastnight, and had a one off change of my pdf reader from foxit to edge when I opened a pdf. It stayed fixed after I changed it back, and nothing else was changed.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

The most annoying change is Search Bing is now permanent in the context menu in Edge when you highlight text.

A standard-sized disc can store around 360 terabytes of data, with an estimated lifespan of up to 13.8 billion years even at temperatures of 190°C. I call shenanigans! I don't think they tested it that long.

Easy stuff.

Hi dear raddevus,
Our company specializes in storing around 360 terabytes of data for about 13.8 billion years.
Please let me know when and where I can call you so we can discuss this promising business opportunity!
Also please give us your bank number so we can pillage it so hard your offspring will feel it for the next 13.8 billion years
Best,
Sander

That'll be doubled every two years

What? Really? They couldn't round up? I mean is 14 billion really that big of a reach?
Does 13.8 somehow add more credibility than 14?
I guess those last 200 million years just get you every time.

Does this mean Microsoft will be able to bring back unlimited One Drive storage?

Forgot to mention that while disks can last that long the disk readers will only be available till Y3K !!!

Imagine the YxK bugs you'd have to fix when booting up that old VM in 13.8 billion years!

I would make a backup every 100 million years anyway. Just to be sure.

Today we’re announcing a new experiment: releasing the VC++ toolset as a NuGet package that can be added to any C++ project or solution targeting desktop. Installing this NuGet package lays down a new copy of the VC++ compiler, header files, and libraries. Mmmm. Tasty dog food.

Vulkan (previously known as GLNext) is an open-source, cross-platform low-overhead API that promises huge performance gains in 3D applications by giving developers low-level control of graphics and CPU hardware. ...and now you have 15 standards

Looks like a lot's happening in the 3D gaming world. Not many game devs on CP though.

Vulkan supports all Windows versions, while DirectX 12 only runs on Windows 10. Because of this I think we will see several AAA games running on Vulkan this year. Game developers want to reach as large a target audience as possible.
