Only 104 critical vulnerabilities were reported in 2021, an all-time low for the world’s largest software company. Just imagine what things would have been like if hackers had easy access to all the Windows ME machines

A team of scientists in the US have accidentally created overly-aggressive mutant hamsters following a gene-editing experiment. And this is how the world ends: not with a bang, but with millions of adorable squeaks

Notice the article didn't say anything about giving them water...

I wonder what that really means?
Quote: The scientists chose to experiment with Syrian hamsters because, unlike mice, they have a social organisation that’s similar to humans
Also, I see no mention of mutant super powers... Is that a voluntary omission?!

When are we (as we in human beings) going to learn that only because can do something, it doesn't mean we should do it...
Starting experiments with gene-editing... what could go wrong?
Note: I do see the potential good of it, but I can really imagine the probable evil of it (and then there are accidents too).

"What if it changes?" isn't just a question. It's a powerful heuristic for software design that can be used to justify almost anything. "Still don't know what I was waiting for"
Of course I had to use that song.

Quote: It's a powerful heuristic for software design that can be used to justify almost anything. Yup, and the art of software is to find the balance between "oh, we didn't design the software for any new features" and "you want to add a time machine? No problem!"

Anyone with a 3D printer can make a new twist on the oldest type of TV Sorry, not 4K
I figure some of you might need a project for your long weekend, right?

Open, aim, shoot!
Shouldn't that be open, drink, shoot, aim?
Yes, I know my suggestion is against every firing safety rule in the book

Are capped glass bottles still commonplace in other countries?
Around here (Norway, that is), aluminum cans and plastic bottles (with a screw cap) has taken over more or less completely. There is no longer a deposit on glass bottles, but rather a heavy bottle tax: This year it is NOK 6.28 per packaging unit (i.e. bottle), around 60 cents. If a significant fraction of the bottles are returned to collect the deposit, the tax is reduced; if 95% is returned, the tax is reduced to zero. But as the machines no longer accept glass bottles, they are not returned. So glass bottles are used only for beverages where NOK 6.28 is a tiny fraction of the total price, like medium to high class wine and spirits. (Cheap wine is either BagInBox or plastic bottles.)
A few of the highbrow micro breweries still deliver some of their top lines in glass bottles - but if I told you the price of a single bottle of those brands, you wouldn't believe me

I would believe you. I have been in Norway visiting a friend and we all had the request to buy as much alcohol as possible in the duty free...
Then I saw the prices in a shop...

As someone who has built more than one popular platform on .NET (DotNET for the marketing conscious), I often get asked about its relevance and whether it’s an ecosystem really worth investing in. "The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say"
Preaching to the choir (mostly here, anyway). But, it's Friday, and I feel like preaching.
And I felt like my neighbourhood needed to hear that song again.

One of the greatest songs, .NET is pretty good too.
"the debugger doesn't tell me anything because this code compiles just fine" - random QA comment
"Facebook is where you tell lies to your friends. Twitter is where you tell the truth to strangers." - chriselst
"I don't drink any more... then again, I don't drink any less." - Mike Mullikins uncle

I know it's kind of popular here, but it seems to be much less used than 15 years ago.

Twitter targeted ads with phone numbers and emails collected for security purposes. Well, they didn't say that Twitter couldn't refrain from not using them.
And I'm sure they're not the only ones doing this. Just the big one to get caught.

But as long as the punishments are so moderated, they will continue doing it. It is cheaper for them to pay the fine, than to sacrifice that income.

If you don't want to wait as long as September to be officially updated through Windows Update, you can get it right now through the official channels via Microsoft, and enjoy all of the new features. Hopefully everyone won't rush out and do this right away
