A mathematical historian at Trinity Wester University in Canada, has found use of a decimal point by a Venetian merchant 150 years before its first known use by German mathematician Christopher Clavius. What's the point?

How do they know it's a decimal point? I know some European countries use the comma instead of the period. Or the writer could have sneezed and his/her pen hit the paper right there. Which is my guess.

This article (from Nature) The decimal point is 150 years older than historians thought[^] offers a bit more context. Basically he was using it in calculations with the same meaning we are used to.

I wonder how many "ooops" moments have had most users before someone realizing that it really is spitting bullshit
I was going to use: Quote: Dr. Alfred Lanning: [voiceover] There have always been ghosts in the machine. Random segments of code, that have grouped together to form unexpected protocols. but that would actually be generous and nice for ChatGPT so I had to deprecate it.

So we still don't have a stable "AI". ChatGPT lasted longer than previous attempts but it's still unstable.
