Personally, I think the fact that you would be pretty well invisible to most traffic, and un the fumes of vehicles around you, didn't help much either. I believe most of them ended up as runarounds in theme parks, which was probably a good thing. Would love to try one.

With Live Tiles, Microsoft has promised much but delivered little. This could be about to change. Isn't that a contradiction in terms?

They could push something incredible out to live tiles tomorrow, and it's doubtful I'd notice before the end of the year even though I use W10 at home.
0) Reboot PC (after patch Tuesday)
1) Mash a half dozen shortcuts on my taskbar. (Probably should just add them to the startup folder, but I can't be elephanted...)
2) Launch an occasional game via Steam (either the client or the tray icon).
3) Once or twice per month: Start button + search text + enter. This's the only time I have the start menu open; but my eyes are on the left edge where the searchbox/results are and not paying attention to any of the live tiles to the right.
4) Patch Tuesday, time to reboot.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Technology is moving too much for today’s workers to keep up, potentially slowing down future growth opportunities, new report suggests. Of course many of those workers have trouble with two-line phones

Which is why we need the robots, since we humans can no longer keep up.

I am glad that I missed some of these "innovations". Like Silverlight from Microsoft.

Microsoft Graph, the company's unified Office 365 programming interface, is likely to be in the spotlight at the company's Build 2016 developer conference. And here I thought they were bringing back Graph from Office 2003

University of Illinois researchers report that they've set a record for fiber data transmission, delivering 57Gbps of error-free data. Yes, please

What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?

I thought the record was already higher than that?
"A joint group of researchers from the Netherlands and the US have smashed the world speed record for a fiber network, pushing 255 terabits per second down a single strand of glass fiber."

That's for a much harder to make multi-core fiber, while this one is for a single core fiber.

Ahhhh....the old multi-mode and single mode fiber issue, which can be confusing when they start talking about cores vs strands! (as some people reference each strand as core)
After all, they are both single strands of fiber when you look at them with the naked eye!

Still, I wouldn't mind having a terabit internet connection. Not sure what I would do with all that bandwidth, though.

Ditto.........Think I would start automatically download entire content from 'some' sites
I have a 100mb fiber link at home (not the UK one), but it a) grinds to a halt completely during peak time to content outside the country! and b) randomly stops working at other times for brief periods. Spoke to some others on the compound and their's is the same, they even had the provider out to check, but not resolved anything. it is as if the DNS stops working.
The fiber gateway also stops responding now and again to pings, especially at it appears to relate to when the outbound connection drops as well.
Really annoying when trying to Skype family in the UK in the evening.

With 473 genes Syn3.0 is the simplest self-replicating cell known and could be basis for new organisms designed to make new antibiotics, fuels and drugs And it's positively, definitely, not going to cause the next global epidemic (probably)

There's some good complementary coverage in the Quanta article: [^]; it focuses in more detail on what the "unknown function" 79 genes (out of 473 genes in Syn3.0) imply for science, and for future research in artificial genomics.
