I used the Lite version for a while and then went and bought the full version.

Today, a large international team of researchers took a major step beyond that. Like the team that worked in bacteria, they started with nothing but short, chemically synthesized pieces of DNA. Using those, they built up an entire chromosome in yeast, eventually replacing the yeast's normal copy. I think I saw that movie once. It doesn't turn out well.

We’ve been hard at work on the Windows Runtime (WinRT) port and it’s about time we share a bit with all of you. For Qt 5.3, we’re releasing the WinRT port as Beta quality, with most of the Qt Essentials modules in functional form (including QML & Quick). We also have preliminary tooling support, so you can get started on WinRT as quickly as you would on any other supported Qt platform. Whoa. Some people are actually developing for WinRT?

Big fish in a small pond I guess.

Chris McAvoy, project lead for Open Badges at the Mozilla Foundation, tweeted his disapproval of the appointment earlier today. It triggered a number of similar responses from other staff at Mozilla, perhaps planned, asking for Eich to resign from his new position. "The peasants are revolting!"

WearScript is a framework for rapidly prototyping and developing Glass applications in JavaScript rather than Android’s native Java. The framework can utilize or repurpose any of Glass’ native capabilities while also connecting the wearable to other input devices and hardware.
Yay JavaScript for Google Glass!

To enable a "transparent texting" system, Apple proposes that an app's background be modified to display video images continuously captured by an iPhone's rear-facing camera, according to a patent application filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday.
But it is funnier when people walk into things!

"Moving" and "driving" are very different things. Apple would be wise to make that distinction if it every implements this tech or they're looking at a walloping of a class-action suit.

Moving and driving are not very different things. Driving is a subtype of Moving surely.
I drive therefore I move (or my car is very broken).

BlackBerry had to file a lawsuit to try and keep one of its most senior executives from leaving for a position at Apple—and it worked. I guess that's what they call job security
|
|
|

So... I guess now they can cut that position's pay too, now that they can legally prevent the exec from going to another job.

Why don't they make it usable on a desktop scale first. Then worry about scaling it up.

MS used to be criticised for favouring Windows. Now they're criticised for not favouring Windows. They can't win.
Tbh, though, MS's orientation ought to be towards whether they can make [adequate] money or not. If it turns out that they are able to do so outside Windows then so be it.

Microsoft Corp. on Monday issued an emergency security warning saying that hackers have found a way to booby-trap certain common Word files with the .rtf extension.
Microsoft says it's aware of attacks going on now, but there's no fix yet to stop the hackers. It's working on a way to stop the bug.
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.
