Software development has become more complex in the last 10 years with the introduction of the cloud, containerization and microservices – not to mention increased attention to security and governance. All of which falls on developers to manage. It can also lead to inconsistent state of joy between threads

Correction. Devs don't need to unlock joy. It is enough to lock bullshit from reaching them

The "original sins" were Xeroxing for photocopying and Hoovering for vacuum cleaning. If memory serves, Xerox spent quite a lot of effort trying to discourage that, because if the term became generic, they may have lost their trademark.

In a study published in Scientific Reports, a research team from the University of Passau compared the quality of machine-generated content with essays written by secondary school students. So let's just have ChatGPT go to school, and have the kids working in the coal mines

Misleading headline: the quality of language usage was at question, not the quality of the essays.

In new experiment, young children destroy AI at basic tasks[^]
That's insider news btw. May I now deduce that young children are smarter than children that have been subjected to "education"?

I'm not very surprised at all. You learn to write by reading what others have written. Reading lots of it. ChatGPT does. Modern kids don't.

Google Drive users are reporting that recent files stored in the cloud have suddenly disappeared, with the cloud service reverting to a storage snapshot as it was around April-May 2023. The Cloud giveth, and The Cloud taketh away (or just loses)

Maybe someone was confused about when they had to delete personal information?
If you rely on a free service, then you have to live with it. It's not like storing files (where you can share them) is that expensive. It costs a whole raspberry pi. If you call yourself a professional, I'd expect you do not rely on "free as advertised".
As a sidenote; it would not surprise me if a lot of the government in my country relies on it.

But based on a quote in the article, it's not just free users who are affected.
Quote: "I pay extra each month to store folders in the cloud so that it is safe, so it is devastating that all my work appears to have been lost," another Google Drive user posted.

That's even worse; but if they were paid for the service, then there's liability? I bet no one will be compensated.
It would cost less than 100 dollars to have a better and safer setup, where them files be accessible everywhere you go. You think there's a market for that? If yes, then I'd collab with some CP members to make that a thing
