Remind me again of why we let China connect to the rest of the civilized world. Their gov't wants their citizens to be brainwashed and not have access to "dissent?" But thanks for asking -- yes, new job is keeping me quite busy, plus still spending evenings and weekends on the old job, two other clients with a bug each to look at, and a contract I'm outsourcing because there's not enough time in the day. Oh, and did I mention finding time to practice the lyre, write the "Web Servers Succinctly" e-book, and do the reading for the psychology counseling certificate program I'm taking? Amazingly, I've had time post a short HOPE[^] video!

Yeah. It's becoming apparent that they really need to expand the size of the C++ compiler team. In the abstract "we're prioritizing useful parts of C++14 over parts of C++11 that no one actually uses" isn't unreasonable; but not even putting a date on finishing full implementation of the '11 spec is creating a major credibility problem.

One of the difficulties with side projects (and it is something that CP were perhaps looking at back when they were looking at ::Workspaces) is that they tend to be solo runs, whereas the most productive and impactful learning tends to come from collaborative small groups.

I haven't really experienced that -- that sounds great, but my experience is that small groups tend to devolve to the lowest common denominator. At least, doing projects solo, I don't get divide by 0 errors.

Agreed that does happen - especially if the group is externally enforced/selected.
However I also find that a sounding board can help stop me going too far down a rabbit hole...I went way too far down one such when I was working on a data access library so am wary of this now.
Maybe I am the lowest common denominator - that would explain both our experiences
