For those of us who have watched automation creep into corporations, this isn't news. The reality is that every time there's an economic downturn companies lay people off and use technology to replace them. Remember the "where's the productivity increases from computer technology?" screaming back in the late 90s and early 2000s? Well, when the recession hit in 2008/2009 all of a sudden it was there as people were laid off. The same exact scenario is occurring now.

C++ is the only language I know of where two very different sets of programmers consider themselves well versed in the language. You had me at "never trust a programmer"

I completely concur with this assessment, and I'm looking at myself. I came from C, but I prefer to code in C++. It just makes code organization a little (note a little...) easier. However, I see so many programmers that write C code, toss in through the C++ compiler and tada, they know C++.
The reference to templates is especially telling...
