It's written like they've given it to some kid straight out of school, and he's really proud of what he's done (or maybe he was a she, like the evil, heartless witch who came up with the "add row/column" lollipops in Word).

Ha! I've just discovered that Notepad++ zooms!

... But it doesn't indicate what zoom level it's at! You have to use a keyboard shortcut to get it back to normal! WTF | :WTF:

Notepad.exe has been going for years without updates; the current "improvements" are not enough to get one to download notepad since there's better products out there at the same price (free). It's only advantage was that it was part of the system, and as such, you'd always have it preinstalled.

If it is not preinstalled, it is not worth the effort of installing.

IMO, "updating" the application with those new features is a waste of money and resources Thumbs Up | :thumbsup:

Many other "text processors" keep the original format.

I do use it as a mid-stop to avoid moving propietary formats between applications, and for that is one of the best I have seen
Additionally this helps to spot weird chars in URLs too

If they haven't changed that... I think it still is worth the download.

I have today been looking for a bit of information regarding this, because our App is facing a new major version (total re-do).

What a headache...
.Net Framework is a bit risky for the future, we are already re-doing the basics, don't want to do a big port in a couple of years.
.Net 5 is not released yet and as always the first versions are going to be a bit "dangerous"
.Net Core 3.0 or 3.1 is a start, they are already out there long enough to have grown a bit stability and madurity. But... If you don't trust the "start doing it in .Net Core, porting it to .Net 5 will be trivial"

Good that I am not the one having to decide (although I have to debate it too)

There's a document somewhere that the Longterm Servicing (LTS) Version of .NET 5 will be .NET 6 next year. So if you decide to upgrade it's probably best to skip 5 and target 6, at which point it will be much more solid and, being LTS, you can relax for the next decade.
