Not sure but if was really weird. Speed tests showed decent enough download speed but bombed on the upload. Trying to submit web pages with any amount of data failed every time. I was unable to even log into my ISP. This morning all seems well, things are speedy again, speed tests work both ways, and all is good!

I barely use my $11 a month Tello Mobile cell phone plan. My life would probably be significantly better if cell phones had never been invented. I've seen cell phones do REALLY bad things to several close family members.

100% agree! I don't blame the device...the problem is with those on the other end who feel the need to call/interrupt me on a whim or because they are bored. Sometimes I feel like a jester.

But many, many other people would be impacted negatively by their absence.
This is most evident in 3 world countries where people can still communicate with relatives and engage in other activities which would not have been possible without cell phones.

If that outage hit us up here in New York, I wouldn't have known. Only have a flip-phone that I hardly use.
I call smart-phones, "dumb phones", since their biggest, subsequent usage is making people dumber than they already are. This is what happens when people can't tell the difference between a "tool" and a "crutch"...

When I am in a waiting room or on public transportation, and I am usually always the only one not 'looking' at my phone, I tend to look at people. I get some odd satisfaction when these folks look up for that 1 second every few minutes, and see my smiling face looking at them. The time it takes them to 'look' back at their phone is measured in Planck times, it's kind of funny.

If anyone saw the story here about ChatGPT become less and less lucid and more fanciful ... I wonder if someone has been training it on the collected works of Professor Stanley Unwin.
