Hi all, I have an Intel NUC i5 5300 with 16gb RAM and a couple of SSD drives , it runs Debian Linux - I use it mainly for hosting my intranet site and any .NET (what was .NET core ) projects, I also use it to build Armbian images for my plethora of SBC boards.
It's starting to show it's age and I would like to replace/supplement it with something newer. The absolute prequisite is that it's quiet and hopefully not too power hungry. Any suggestions peeps ?

me as well. I will be looking for a new box this fall. So I look forward to the discussion.
I have been looking at one of these mini PC's this is for home use. So, I think, completely different than your needs.

My requirement doesn't include running Windows

nor mine, Anything I get will be wiped and a fresh install of Debian version will be installed.

The ACEMAGIC AM18 Mini PC shown on the same page comes without Windows, and is a lot cheaper. It probably has an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS processor.

Ace Magic...aren't these from some Chinese manufacturer that was caught preloading their systems with spyware a few months back?
[Edit]
Ah, yes...

yes, but like discussed in this message thread. mostly these will be wiped completely clean and afresh install of some Linux variant will be installed. So that should not be an issue for most people here.

Even if you replace the hard drive altogether, there's still the firmware.
And even if you flash the firmware, you can't trust any newer version if it's from the same guys.
Unlike a router, I've never heard of alternate/third-party firmware for a computer. Heck, you can brick a system from a trusted manufacturer if you get firmware for a system from the same company, but get the model wrong.

I was about to suggest one of those.

I don't have a specific one to recommend. I was going to get one as a low end game machine at one point, so an AMD with something onboard that could run fallout 4. Last time i looked they were like $800 USD on amazon.
But they have all kinds of different varieties, so tell me more about what you want to do with it and I'll dig up a few examples.

Thanks, I mainly use it for home .net projects, storing my ~500 gb of music and hosting a couple of lightweight API's which are only used by me

I mean I don't know of any that don't have Windows pre-installed, but I haven't really looked. Although if the $169 one works, it's like the price of a windows license all in itself. I don't think you'll get it a whole lot cheaper without windows in that particular case.

two examples of what I call link bloat
It would be so nice if copying a link to pass on could optionally remove everything from the ? forward which I believe is there merely to track us around and prehaps generate advertiser link click money
I find it tedious deleting all this off particularly when forwarding on a phone

I probably could have sanitized the links to be honest, but it's fiddly work.

Huh?? Marking from the question mark to the end of the URL and pressing the Del key is 'fiddly work'??

Bothering to look at the url long enough to figure out which parts of the query string are required and which aren't.
I couldn't be bothered. Too fiddly. YMMV.
