Got an odd emails from Apple yesterday at 16:27 saying I had renewed my subscription to Netflix's via my iTunes account. All very offical looking, I was tipped off to it be a scam by three things...
1) I don't have a Netflix's account
2) I was addressed by my Email address rather the Dear Mr Patton
3) I haven't got an iTunes account
I looked over the email and the link for unsubscribe/cancel went to a site ending .edu while the rest all pointed at Apple. Very good all in all if I didn't have my email client set to reveal what the actual address it points to. If I was using a mobile device and panic reigned it looked offical enough to follow links. Gosh darn it beaware! Just remember family might not be that web savvy and using email/Skype to catch up with relatives...
I chill by spending all the money I save by NOT having subscriptions to Netflix, Amazon, Sky and half a dozen other such services on things I actually want! Besides, there’s plenty of good stuff out there for free (some of ti even legal! ) eg on Walter Presents[^].. I refuse on principle to subscribe to such services – when (and I’m not holding my breath) they introduce reasonable PPV options I’ll think about it.
Nat West Mortgage Account
Sky TV Sub
because they have used a wrong gmail address.
I managed to unsubscribe from some of the easier ones, but just can't get the NatWest and Sky ones to stop! It makes for interesting reading, particular when they were behind with payments a couple of times!
I once opened an account with smile bank which is an online bank.
Half an hour after I had done that I got a phone call from someone saying they were from the bank asking me to confirm my username and password - I politely told them to bogoff and asked them if many people refused to hand over these details.
My surprise was their answer 'Yes, only a few people refuse to give us their user names and passwords."
I asked them to let their manager know that it was ridiculous to ask for security details.
I think the call was genuine, however perhaps the biggest crime they committed was in giving their clients the idea that it was safe to hand over credentials via an incoming call.
“That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.”
I received a text supposedly from an area cable/internet provider (that I have never used), that they renewed my subscription for $436(USD) and to click on the provider link, which is an impossible task for my flip phone (yes, that's right a flip phone). Still though I had to confirm my credit card balances, an unnecessary pain in the @ss.

I once had an email addressed to my password!
That was several years ago when I had one password used on all internet locations. I now have a formula for my passwords (no, I'm not telling you what it is) which will enable me to work out which a/c has been hacked if I ever get a similar occurrence in the future.
OK, ta... as you can gather, I'm not much into these... haven't played a PC game in anger for 20 odd years... I go back to the original Wolfenstein, and then Doom and Quake a few years later... I quite enjoyed Wolfenstein, and the others were OK, but I found myself feeling so "wired" (for want of a better word) after playing that I soon gave up on them. IT wasn't a nice feeling - on edge and tense.... weird, really - but it wasn't nice or fun. Maybe they're different now.... but finding the time for them now is another matter - I seem to recall hours could pass....
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies.

They don't make it easy, do they?
I've lost count of the number of times I've logged in - on the same PC, using the same browser - and finally worked out how to access the UPlay launcher: find the download link, and right click it, then select "open in a new window". Then it'll download.
My confidence in their games is not high ...
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...
