Yet despite their availability, people seem to either not know they exist, or cant be bothered to spend the £50.
So in this mega snow storm (mega for Britain anyway) I put the socks on to go out and get some photos.
Of the few cars that had ventured out, they were all in trouble. Either abandoned or struggling to get up tiny inclines. Yet here was I driving around, in drifts up to a few feet deep, up and down hills, without any problems. I font get it. Why the hell not buy snow socks?
Thanks for being such a good example of the mentality in Britain I am talking about.
Why indeed spend £50 to stop you from getting stuck, miles from home, in the freezing cold, your car wrecked, or in a ditch. Having to sleep in the freezing cold on a motorway, to be rescued by the police.
Yes, why indeed spend £50. Just isnt worth it is it eh?
Yes, of course, but the reason why Britain comes to a standstill when 3 inches of snow falls whereas Scandinavia, Canada et al manage with far more, is precisely because it isn't worth us investing money in such rare events. Cheaper to take the loss and just deal with it as and when.
104 hours/year of paid leave (NOT vacation - those are usually 20 days but need to be planned with the company).
Sick days (if certified by a medic) barely limited (after a certain amount of days pay is reduced though).
Vacation days cannot be reduced or paid out, and can accumulate for maximum two years then they MUST be used or there is a fine for the employer (and possibly the employee). They must be taken according to plans made together with the company though, so one cannot "take a vacation day" on a whim (usually - many company don't care and allow it anyway). They are counted as days or half days.
Paid leaves are counted in hours or half hours, can be taken mostly anytime with a bare minimum or no notification at all (the latter only on urgent matters). It is possible to take several contiguous days of paid leave if one wants it but they cannot be chained to vacation days. The company may, through contract with the single employee, reduce the number of paid leave hours paying them in the salary, but must aloow for at least 2 hours/month. They pauid leave hours stack and after two years if an employee has not used them they will be paid in the monthly chekc.
Plus there are holidays, which are quite a lot: Christmas, New Year, the day after Easter, May 1st (labourers holiday), June 2nd (Republic celebration), August 15th (Ferragosto) and December 8th (Conception) plus the local protector Saint holiday of the city the office is located.
