What is W 2 ?
Depends where you are in the world (country/state/province).
Depends on your experience.
Depends on the complexity contract (including hardware, software, support, ... )
Depends on the local tax laws and regulations
At my age/experience if I was to go contract, id's ask ~100$/per hour (Montréal, Canada)

The single largest determining factor in determining a contract rate is the duration of the contract. Unfortunately, a lot of individuals will take a 5 hour contract at a rate that only makes sense if they have 3000 billable hours a year.

Thanks for the information.
Just 2 months back I relocated to Waukegan, Chicago IL. I have 7+ yrs of experience in Web (ASP.NET Winform + MVC3), Windows Development, WCF.
I'm new to W2 Contract and a consultancy guy had called me up with the opportunity to work with W2 contract. As I understood with W-2 contract, the agency will deduct all related taxes from our paycheck
Thanks,

"W" is for "Wobbly", and W 2" is "Kinda Wobbly".
So it's Bambi [^] development.

Like Max said, it all depends on where you are, the complexity/scope of the project, duration, your expertise in the area for the project. There is no real simple, cut answer to your question. More specifics would be helpful as to what kind of "IT" job are you looking into.

Currently getting $60 plus $13 for per diem. Move to get those rates, and work in WPF.

To be honest, I think I am going to update my site and make it all Javascript. I am tired of Silverlight.
