The #1 rule is: Be respectful of others, of the site, and of the community as a whole.
2. Technical discussions are welcome, but if you need specific programming question answered please use Quick Answers[^], or to discussion your programming problem in depth use the programming forums[^]. We encourage technical discussion, but this is a general discussion forum, not a programming Q&A forum. Posts will be moved or deleted if they fit better elsewhere.
3. No sys-admin, networking, "how do I setup XYZ" questions. For those use the SysAdmin[^] or Hardware and Devices[^] forums.
4. No politics (including enviro-politics[^]), no sex, no religion. This is a community for software development. There are plenty of other sites that are far more appropriate for these discussions.

7. Not everyone's first language is English. Be understanding.
Please respect the community and respect each other. We are of many cultures so remember that. Don't assume others understand you are joking, don't belittle anyone for taking offense or being thin skinned.
We are a community for software developers. Leave the egos at the door.

What certifications are good to have and worth my time perusing? I am looking to add such things to my resume to make it stand out. I am a software engineer with experience in C#. I am also interested in JavaScript Frameworks and SQL.
PluralSight has come recommendations, but I want to know what YOU think. I am not here to advertise for PluralSight and, besides, I do not agree with what they recommend since I have never heard of some of the technologies that they mention.
Here is my opinion. First and foremost I think should be JavaScript as far as important languages to master. What sort of certifications are there for demonstrating knowledge of JavaScript. My next post I am going to make is going to be asking what JavaScript books or instructional sources would you recommend.
For fun, I have had a look at what Plural Site and Udemy has to offer. I ran a search on Udemy for "Certification" There seems to be a lot of practice certicationi exams for "Scrun Master". I did not konw that was even a thing. Is it?
Speaking of Udemy: maybe I should just take a few corses there and put on my resume that I took the course. I wonder if Udemy offers some sort of verification that one takes a course.

IMO, just taking certification exams to check tech stuff on a bucket list will not make you more employable.
Other than that, I don't know; I haven't needed or required to take certifications exams.

IMHO, technology certifications (and often CS degrees) aren't worth the paper they're printed on. What matters is your ability to do the job. I've encountered holders of MS CS degrees and Certified Microsoft Developers who couldn't solve whiteboard programming problems during in-person interviews. It's quite depressing.
I'm a big fan of Pluralsight, but simply as a way to help increase my knowledge. The real benefit comes from applying that new found knowledge to building meaningful apps. IMHO, you should focus on that instead of garnering certifications. Trust me, they don't mean squat in the real world.

No doubt it's possible to corrupt an MP3 file if an MP3 tag editor is somehow buggy. That's why I tend to take the time to listen to MP3s after I rip a CD and then tag the files (or take an existing MP3 and just re-tag it...I'm paranoid in that way).
But what about files that have simply been left sitting on disk for months or even years?
I have MP3s that seem to have developed audible clicks and ticks and simply garbled sound without me having changed them in any way, shape or form (as far as I can tell). If an MP3 player offers to "automatically update tags with information downloaded from the internet", I disable that.
I realize bit rot is a thing, but if I'm otherwise not noticing any sort of data corruption with any other type of file...why would this only happen with MP3 files? Digital files are just that, 0s and 1s, and I see no reason for them to change on their own over time (that should simply not ever happen)...yet I'm hearing evidence some of my MP3s are not what they used to be...
Thoughts? Speculation...?

v1 Tags are appended to the end of the file, while v2 tags are prepended, if I remember properly. There is no reason for a tagging software to modify anything inside the audio stream.
I digitalized all my cd's to mp3 years ago, and I still listen to them, having transfered them numerous times between my computers/phones/NAS; I never noticed any degradation of the audio signal.
Did you test offending files on several equipments, to be sure the file is the culprit?

your machine doesn't like your taste of music.
but serially have you tried playing it with another app, or perhaps another machine? maybe the original encoding app "relied on some feature" which player updates have since "fixed"?

Better or worse error correction in the mp3 codec ?
I'd rather be phishing!

It's almost certainly NOT the MP3 itself. I would suspect the player. Try another one.

As others have said, I would suspect the player not the files. The only 'scratches' I hear from my library are those tracks that were ripped from CDs.
BTW, long ago I started a personal project to catalog my music library by using the ID3 tags. I found out quick that they are totally unreliable and have major shortcomings that made them unsuitable for that purpose. (truncated names either at 30 or 60 chars depending on version)

I still use the scanner of a "all in printer" that doesn't print anymore. Has been scanning a page in 30 sec more or less during years, but now is getting longer the longer I use it at once. If I have to scan 20 pages the first one is 30 sec or so as it has always been, but the last ones are over 3 minutes. What it is already annoying me pretty much.
As I am thinking anyways in an "office" (actually private usage + some gaming) upgrade next year, I will probably send the old devices to recycle.
I have seen there are "by pass" scanners, where the scanning lense is fixed and the pages get through (as in printers), some specs I have read say around 15 pages pro minute.
Any experiences over there with such things? Do you think better the ones where the light / lense move?
My scan usage is mostly for documents and pictures but in non-professional expectations. Mostly use 300dpi (sometimes 600dpi, very, very seldom something higher). I just want it to be reliable and if possible not over-priced.
If you are happy with your device I would like to ask you: what do you use? I'll check them up.
Thank you in advance

... well following on from OG's earlier post, why not a laser printer with an ADF?
one machine, 2 jobs, great for occasional and heavy jobs.
I bought a laser (replacing inkjet) about 6 months ago.
scanned all of maybe 4 pages and printed a whopping 5.
but being a laser (xerox in my case) it could just as easily do 500 pages in 1 sitting.
(compared to a $50 inkjet with ADF - yes they do exist, but apart from the $100 ink every 2nd time you turn it on, at $50 for the machine how reliable would the feeder be? - from my experience also crap.)

I still have my inkjet (but only because the tip isn't open) as I figured I'd use it as a scanner instead of buying a dedicated one / using my phone.
So when I needed it recently? "Cartridge not recognised" ... To the tip with it! Useless damn things.
Probably, I'll stick to using the phone - it's probably faster than scanning anyway, and a similar resolution.

I still have a HP Color LaserJet 2600n, but it is asking for replacement too. The sensor for yellow is did break a couple of years ago, but I deactivated the "avoid printing if toner X is low" option and worked again. I haven't replaced it before, because I still have a set of unopened toners I wanted to use. But it has lately started to make the pages grey all over and print quality has dropped pretty much. So I am starting to think on recycle it and the toners (AFAIK the size of the toners is not compatible with newer models, I will check again before sorting them out), although I might give it a try to open it and try to clean it myself before with the hope of a easy to fix issue.

If all you care about is scanning, I really can't complain about my $60 Canon CanoScan LiDE 100...although this is now years old and I have no idea with its current replacement is. It might not compare with my decades old $900 HP ScanJet scanner (with SCSI interface thank you very much), but the price makes it a winner.
Bonus: Windows 10 detects it without having to install any third-party driver + infestware, so your system is left pretty clean.

I've had an Epson V-20 flatbed for many years used once or twice yearly to copy docs and photos. Nothing outstanding but good enough for my needs.
