RantFail: VS2012 Test Explorer Pin
Marc Clifton22-Oct-12 5:46
mvaMarc Clifton22-Oct-12 5:46
Was trying out the Test Explorer in VS2012, and compared to VS2008, it FAILS.

The main issue is this: in VS2008, any message associated with the assertion that failed was displayed on the same line as the failed test name.

In VS2012, you have to click on the friggin' failed test to see all this gobbledeygook (source, another "Test Failed" message, Elapsed time, Stack trace) to muddle through the (ok, it IS bolded) actual message.

This is a terrible implementation! I don't want to have to mouse click through every failed test to see what the message is, and it is annoying me because I'm writing a small e-book on unit testing and I want to show the messages along with several failures as a single screenshot, rather than multiple screenshots because each failure needs a separate message screen!

Argh!!! And of course, I can find no way to go back to a "normal" list view. Message to Microsoft:

1. Find the developer who changed the presentation of the Text Explorer window and FIRE HIM.
2. If you're going to tout a fancy UI based on the fancy-shmancy WPF, then support the fancy-shmancy feature of being able to view information in different formats!
3. Go back to user interface design kindergarten. Do not graduate from elementary school. Do not collect your certificate of user interface design competence.
