I'm still trying to figure out what a urban, hipster wedding
It will not be traditional, no religion involved, probably not going to do a lot of the traditional stuff (throwing bouquet, chicken dance, etc.) The space is essentially an old warehouse painted white. No flower girl, no ring boy, no giant bridal parties or 16+ groomsmen.
The last wedding I went to cost the bride and groom $42.00 per plate for pasta that was cold. There was no alcohol included in that price. For that money they could have treated everyone to a very nice restaurant with appetizers, wine, and a dessert and still saved a considerable amount of money - and had food that was 10x better.
Was it at a banquet hall? We purposely avoided them for this reason, the food sucks. We had the caterers chosen before anything else. [^] Doing it buffet style, to save money to be able to provide good food. As far as drinks, that will be included. I'll even be brewing my own wine/mead/beer.
I like that. When I got married we went simple, we got married in Key West, on our honeymoon trip. And we didn't tell anyone in advance. Part reason was that I'm Swedish, my family basically only speaks Swedish. My Wife is German and her family speaks only German. So where to get married?
We fled the whole thing, and made three different parties instead. On in my hometown for my family, one in my wifes hometown for her family and one in our house where we live now for our friends. We also kept it cheap, good catering and plenty to drink was the whole concept.
People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.
Believe me, it will not be a super expensive wedding. Not paying for DJ, I'll draft a bartender, and my friend is a professional wedding photographer with his own business (An assistant will probably shoot it as he'll be guest).
I'm not getting any monetary help, so the budget is <15k.
I'm actually getting married this Saturday, and while the wedding isn't cheap, it's also not ridiculous. We're doing it at the Jacksonville (FL, USA) Zoo, they're catering, full and open bar, and it's actually a pretty cool venue. One of my best friends is one of those Six Flags Discount Internet Minsters, so he's doing the service, and another friend is a professional guitarist, so he's playing. There are ways to keep costs down if you're resourceful. All in all, the sincere hope is that our wedding will be one hell of a party, so if that's a success, it'll be well worth the expense.
Aside from the whole being married part, anyway...
