I know there's similar capabilities by other services as well, so it's not so much about Hangout as the service concept itself. I was very impressed. Great audio and video quality, the way the video feed switches to the person that's talking is, while an obvious and easy thing to do, is really an amazing and cool thing to experience. For the life of me, I cannot understand why companies insist on meeting in conference rooms for just "talk" meetings, or for that matter, having to work on site 100% of the time. To think the company I worked for in 1991 was a leader in compressed B&W video sent over 14.4Kbps modems, and the frame rates we were getting was maybe 1 image update per second at a resolution of 320x200 or so.
Going to help clear and hike a stretch of the Florida Trail[^] along the Suwanee River this coming week. Really looking forward to the primitive camping and great weather we are having. I belong to a group that is responsible for maintaining about 120 miles of the trail in N.E. Florida, they are a great bunch of people and love hiking with them.
I am not one for camping - my concept of a good camping trip is staying in a hotel, on a soft bed and with a toilet and shower. However, it does look very beautiful. So, to be educated, what is actually involved in "clearing" a hiking trail? I always figured hiking trails were pretty low maintenance except for the occasional tree that might fall across a path and need to be removed.

We mow and lop them the trail, which means we carry a pair of loppers[^] and trim the brush and tree limbs back so the path is accessible.
Also Palmetto[^] bushes grow everywhere down here and they can be a real pain.
Some sections that I've helped clear haven't been done in a couple of years and apparently not heavily traveled so nature took it back and we really had to work to get a trail cut through it again.
The Florida Trail is not as heavily traveled as the Appalachian Trail but can be traveled in the fall to spring months. The summer is to hot and we generally do Kayaking in the summer.
When I retired I found I was gaining weight and really getting out of shape so I decided it was time to get off my ever widening butt and do the things I never had much time to do while I was working and raising a family. I've always liked the outdoors so this is a natural thing for me.
Its funny, you buy a book on camping and the authors ideas of primitive is that the R.V. parking doesn't have pull through
Ain't that the truth.
I talked to the neighbor downstairs, yeah the blond and her idea and most other women I'm finding is that primitive camping means the Motel 8 instead of the Hilton.
My idea is going in the middle of nowhere by car then walking a mile or so back into the woods until you find 2 good trees and hang your hammock. You pack everything you need in and pack everything back out when you're done.
No, this isn't an attempt to start a debate on gun control. A fan of The Walking Dead shot[^] his girlfriend for saying it was unrealistic. Honestly, if he didn't have a gun, he'd just have looked for some other weapon. Stupid is as stupid does - unfortunately, in this case, stupid watches TV.

Reading the story, this was not momentary rage. This was an argument that brewed over several hours, first in person, then in text messages, and so on. This guy got so worked up over the disagreement that he sat with a gun and waited for her to check on him.
Less stupid, more anger management issues with this one. If he hadn't had a gun, he would have struck her with something else.
But if he'd had to look for another weapon he'd have forgotten what he wanted it for by the time he found it.
When Jerry Sadowitz got punched on stage at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal (before he outed Jimmy Savile and was no longer allowed on TV) I remember the American comedians mocking the Canadians for their lack of guns and having to walk all the way to the stage just to punch someone. Said more people would get punched, but by the time the angry person had made their way to the stage they'd forgotten what they were angry about or calmed down. In the US all you'd have to do was stand up, shoot, sit down and wait for the next guy.
Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.
Is it possible to beat someone to death with a bottle of Prozac? That was probably the nearest thing to this idiot when he committed the crime. If not the Prozac he probably had a bottle of some kind of liquor that he was washing the pills down with and that would have done it.
Honestly, if he didn't have a gun, he'd just have looked for some other weapon.
I've always hated that argument. In this situation it may be true, but when I heard it being made about the Aurora shootings, for example, I just thought, if he didn't have guns, would he have killed those twelve people by throwing f***ing potatoes at them?
So if I go out and kill 1 it's less reprehensible than killing 12? I'm sorry, but you are talking complete bollocks there and unfortunately this thread has gone completely off the track of saying how stupid it is to get that worked up over a piece of prime time schlock TV.

What could he have used that would even approach a firearm?
How about some of the homemade grenades he booby-trapped his apartment with? He had over 30 of them in his apartment wired up to traps. What if he walked in and lobbed a half dozen grenades into the crowd. More than 12 people would have died. What's your argument now? How about we ban all of the items that could possibly be used to make explosive devices. There goes all modern technology, cleaning supplies, gardening supplies, gasoline/diesel. If people want to kill, they will find a way, regardless of how well regulated anything is.
Don't blame me. I voted for Chuck Norris.
