First of all, I'm a Windows user and fan; I'm not a Linux troll. Having said that, the more that I've gotten to know Linux specifically and Unix in general, the more impressed I have become with it's overall architecture and style. When I first started working with Linux it was because I was forced to and it wasn't a pretty experience. However, it's slowly started to grow on me and I can honestly say that I appreciate a lot of stuff about it.
I don't do kernel programming in Windows or Linux, but I'd be interested to hear some more about the differences or pros/cons of each and what your take on all of it is.
SHELL PETROLEUM INTERNATIONAL PROMOTION NOTIFICATION have just sent me a 581KB PDF telling me that I have just won $1,500,000 in a lottery where they entered my email address as an 'alternative number CD80A'. Apparently it is a 'Shell GB Promotion', so I find it a bit sad that they forgot to translate the prize into GB£.
Mind you, the photo and graphics were pretty good, albeit a bit blurry.
The saddest thing, though, is that they are obviously giving away so much money, that they can't afford to buy a dictionary or spell checker, and can't afford a website, so they have to send email through live.com!
Seriously though, folks, a 600K spam PDF? How the hell are they managing to send those? Obviously, it obfuscates the message for spam filters, but I thought these guys sent out tens of millions of spam messages day.
I found my first Maps flaw a couple days ago. The maps wanted me to do this crazy loop around a road that would have brought me straight to my destination. As I drove down that road, the Maps app showed the road as ending about half way through my journey on it.
Apple products in general are not perfect. Apple sets high standards for themselves and people who buy Apple products come to expect high quality. Normal people accept / admit that Apple products are not perfect. Fanbois do not.
That being said...
0. M$ zealots and Penguinistas are equally moronic when it comes to Microsoft products and Linux. Normal users understand that neither is perfect.
1. No mapping solution I've ever used is 100% perfect... Google included. I've used Garmin and Tom-Tom GPS devices that couldn't find my house when I was parked in the driveway.
2. Apple being the big consumer device manufacturer puts them under the microscope & makes them the big target for the press. Not unlike Microsoft with it's big products (Windows & Office).
Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. ~ George Washington
