So, last weekend I checked the rainwater tank (we're not on mains water) and we were down to a couple of days supply. Gambled on the forecast of 'possible showers'
Today our 40 000 litre tank has been overflowing. The pool (12m x 6m - you do the maths) has gone from skimmer box level to overflowing.
Both dams are at capacity (last week I had to stop using it as the level was too low to pump without dredging)
And it is peeing down, with a forecast of heavier rain and tornados.
Now the flaming power is out so I have to go out and get soaking opening the garage doors and front gate - both of whih are electric.
I'm on rainwater too, although in NZ so a bit more of a temparate climate.
We have @ 38,000l storage and we once made three months on that (family of four), was about to ring for the tanker and it pi**ed down for a day which filled them up and lasted another 10 weeks. Mind you that's being careful/paranoid about water use...like "if its yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down", no baths, short showers, minimal use of washing machine bla bla.
My recent Plan B is a small swimming pool which has a capacity of about 12,000 litres. Last summer I pumped that back into the tanks when we ran low.
Its amazing how you watch how much water you use when supply isn't a guaranteed thing.
Around where I live most places have 2 x 25,000 litre tanks, a couple have 3.

Come to think of it, I have a crappy Chinese SKS I picked up for $70 several years ago in the closet that has a stock which looks like it's been well chewed by deranged beavers. Rather than investing money in putting a quality stock on this cheap trash of an "assault weapon" (aka, monkey copy for the targeting market), maybe it would be more fun to fabricate something along this line. My current tool of choice is Ryobi - their One+ line of 18V power tools is truly excellent - but the SKS doesn't have a removable magazine. Still, I should be able to fabricate a snap-on cover for the hinged box magazine that looks just like a Ryobi battery pack. That would be very cool to take into Home Depot and ask for replacement parts.

It's rather slick, actually. Ammo is preloaded in speed strips, which are inserted in the top of the action when it locks open. One press of the thumb and ten rounds are loaded instantly - much faster than swapping high-capacity magazines! Like this[^], though the guy in the video could use some practice.
I've got a DeWalt nailgun and they can be darned dangerous things to use for sure. When fitted with the 18v battery and a full rack of nails it weighs a ton. The safety mechanism at the point needs to be redesigned. The weight of the nailgun alone is sufficient to depress it thus enabling the trigger to be pulled when you least expect it. I know, as I nearly discharged a nail in my foot when I was working in a confined area in the loft.
Mine is nothing compared to that gun, however.

Of all the stupid things they've pulled on CSI, my favorite was where one of the main characters on CSI:Miami got shot in the eye socket with a nail gun. I find it hard to believe that, in the 1-2 foot range at which he got shot, the nail wasn't embedded in his skull. The back of his skull. From the inside.
