I actually read about the whale stuff years ago in a highly esteemed scientific magazine. Alright, I admit. It was in a Disney comic book - Donald Duck to be precise (In Denmark Donald Duck is the leading Disney character, not Mickey Mouse).
I don't remember the year or a whole lot of details, but they hauled a huge lump of that stuff back to shore.
On a side not, I also remember Donald Duck and the 3 nephews raising a sunken ship using ping-pong balls many, many years before Mythbusters tried it out. A little Googling tells me that story was first published in 1949! http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=W+WDC+104-02[^]

My cousin emailed me yesterday about the company [not the one I work for, but the family one] website, he approached a local IT company [down in Bedfordshire, not in Abz] to see what they could do to improve the current website which is looking old and dated by todays standards.
They sent a reply to him with a proposal detailing what they would offer and how much it would cost.
So, I sat back and started reading.
After going through the usual introduction rubbish about this, that and the other, Google this, search optimisation that, you know the sort of rubbish, they get down to what they were actually proposing.
They wanted to introduce a Wordpress based site. WTF? I thought.....and kept reading.
They then go onto say that this would require moving from the current windows based hosting to Linux based hosting as Wordpress is based on PHP and requires Linux.
At this point they lost all credibility and had it been me they returned the proposal to, I would have been on the phone and ripped them a new @r$ehole.
Having just spent a couple of weeks in December trying Wordpress, DotNetNuke, Orchard and god knows what else, I wasn't best pleased with their response. Considering I had somehow managed to test these all on a Windows box.
Needless to say I have since fed this back to my cousin, and asked him to go back and do some fishing with them and see how much more garbage they want to spurt. And as for their prices, they can poke them as well.
I have seen this myself. The company here had an outside "developer" team that insisted the website had to be on a Linux box. Then tried to say that a crappily built eCommerce site was worth $200,000.00
The woman running the show would charge a $500 fee for "coordination fee" just for passing information to her so called programmer, which she claimed was worth $400 an hour in an emergency(THEIR code got hacked but it was our fault..3 times in 6 months).
things of that nature abounded in that mess.
After I took over the IT department it took me a few months of conniving and convincing the bosses that they were dirty and bending us over a barrel, but we now have a new developer and new website. the other guys are history.

Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow.
My fiancee makes WP sites all the time, it is apparently quite easy and widely used. The list of companies that she has been contracted to is pretty impressive, I'm surprised when she gets a new gig to find out Company X uses WP.
I find the work place the hardest place to pull off a joke. Most I attempt go down like a lead balloon. I made a wise-crack once about not being able to vote because they put most polling stations in schools and I couldn't go within 200-yards of one as part of my bail conditions. From the questions the bloke asked me for the next two weeks you could tell he thought I was a genuine paedophile.
