Interesting observation: in the year 1965 the first 911s priced about $6,500, while the first "desktop computer" by Olivetti at the same time was about half the price of 911, namely: $3,200. Currently, the high-end PC is about $1k, while Porshe 911 starts at $50k+ and goes up to about $180k. Any thoughts on that?
One positive conclusion is that the workers on the first 911s probably couldn't afford to own a computer, but current workers on 911s can! Therefore the lifestyle of a 911-builder has drastically improved

I saw a slide show on cars that have a long history, and most look nothing like what they did when the model was initially introduced. The 911 was one. Interesetingly not the bettle, which has by far the longest history. It has the distictive look, but the engine has moved, so actually quite different. The 911 amazingly still has the horizontally opposed rear engine. Of course now it is water cooled instead of air cooled (I assume) since doubt could get an air cooled engine to meet emission standards, and also harder to get the fuel efficiency.

If only people crashed Porsches with their driving at the same rate as they crash computers with their programs, there will be fewer idiots on earth!
I am currently reading the RFCs 3195[^] (BSD syslog protocol) and 5424[^](syslog architecture) for a project at work, we need syslog functionalities due to federal comlpliance guidelines in the medicine sector.
One may say "That's boring", but I somehow like it. I got the responsibility for one of the most important parts of the project (not bad for a barely 20 years old apprentice), and I am running under full power reading through all these RFCs and get a syslog library up and running by myself (I'll even use the correct layering and terminology to get it as near as possible to the Linux syslog).
I am sorry for you guys out there, no article this time since it is work-related (and I do it at work).
Anyways, if I find a peer or two to do the same thing in a bit of spare time off-work I might think about doing this a second time to put it up here.
