So I have decided to join the 21st century in terms of home security.
Just purchased a 4 camera cctv system that records onto a dvr with hard drive and can be set to back up incidents to both a usb stick and to a cloud archive.
It also allows you to stream the output to your phone or pc.
Added to that I have just bought a Smartbel doorbell system that rings my phone when anyone pushes the doorbell.
So if I am out and someone comes to the house I can see them on video and speak to them directly via the phone.
All in for £350, not bad at all.
Obscurum per obscurius.
Ad astra per alas porci.
Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum videtur.
That's a pretty reasonable price, Dave. I spent about $250 on a Uniden system that provides two wireless outdoor cameras and one indoor-only unit, plus the hardware and software to interface to the PC and use the things. What wasn't mentioned on the box is that it can record only form one camera at a time, and that has to be manually selected. Nice unit, but almost useless because of that limitation. I wrote to Uniden and asked for a SDK or API I can use to make my own recording scheduling software, but that email was ignored. Bummer, since I will now actively steer anyone I know or meet for the rest of my life away from any Uniden product, which could result in a significant number of folks never buying their stuff.
What brand did you buy, and is it available in the colonies?
On a related note, we recently had a bit of sabotage at one of our well sites, causing the destruction of a well pump and damage to other facilities. So I popped out to Sam's Club and bought a Bushnell game camera, then installed it at the well site, just to see how well it performs. The results are excellent - beautiful daytime shots, and very acceptable nighttime stuff. Since nothing's happened since the original attack, though, it's rather boring to review. So I'm in the market for a Yeti suit to wear whilst walking just outside the fence late at night during a new moon. It needn't be fancy, but it should be fairly sturdy as we often have rather nasty high winds at night. Any thoughts on where I might find one?
I hate people who make comments at the movies or while watching TV. I was watching a cartoon movie the other day and a friend just kept making comments every few minutes on what the scene implied. I finally snapped at them and said:
[Sean Connery's voice] Don't you presume to tell me how to follow Up. [/Sean Connery's voice]
IE actually displays a logical number. This is just a FF bug (or possibly joke). I also have seen 'i GB/sec', '-infinity GB/s', and 'NaN GB/s'. I think someone at Mozilla might have a sense of mathematical humor.
