He means that you should pick the most appropriate forum and stick with it. If you have a question in the right forum, then there's a chance that it will be answered properly. You might not get the full answer the first time, but as people contribute to the thread you get a better understanding and everybody benefits. If you have postings in multiple forums, there's less chance of that dialogue building up and everybody loses.

I've been away from .NET for a couple of years now, only using it now and then for small projects. Has anything been added for playing and manipulating audio? What I'm looking for is something that could be used as the basis for writing synthesizers and effects. I've done this with C#/.NET using Managed DirectX, but I don't think that MDX is supported any more. I later switched over to using P/Invoke and the Win32 Wave API.
I've looked at the System.Media namespace, but there's not enough there to do much more than simple wave file playback.
Is there anything in WPF? A cursory look at System.Windows.Media didn't turn up anything interesting beyond the MediaPlayer class.
Are we still in a position of having to roll our own audio libraries using P/Invoke?

Depending on what you want to do, and what kind of performance you need, there are a few options.
The easiest is using one of the managed wrappers for DirectShow or DirectX audio (DirectShow is no longer part of DirectX, and DirectX audio really now means XAudio2, which is replacing DirectSound).
The more complicated, but more efficient for performance, is to write your own manged <-> unmanaged interface layer, and use things like command batching and shared memory, since every call across the managed / unmanaged interface is a real performance killer.

For my purpose there are some .NET classes that almost but not quite right and can't be fixed by subclassing and overloading.
I just downloaded the .NET Framework source from MS Shared Source web site

Now I wonder could I take some classes code from the library and reuse and taylor the code in my library?
It's not like I intend to replace the .NET Framework, I just want to write a difficult to write control. And base its code on an existing one is much easier and a good use of reference material, wouldn't it?

You can uninstall it on your local computer. You can't prevent (remote) users from printing to a specific printer AFAIK.
Are you trying to prevent users from "stealing content"? If the answer is yes, then pdf995 will pose a problem too.

I am at my whits end on this one. I am using VS2005. I have a MenuStrip on the Main window when the application is running there is no icon...that is OK. I open a form inside the main window that has an icon set...and it shows the generic little blue, yellow and red icon in the MenuStrip beside File...however if I minimize the form and maximize it my icon shows beside File in the MenuStrip....any pointers where this is going wrong.

My program (ducttape.sourceforge.net) uses a completely custom file system browser for opening and saving files. It does not use the conventional file dialogs (for good reason). Anyway, I just got a bug report of a user trying to make a folder in the file dialog, but the application runs un-elevated by default which caused it to crash with a UnauthorizedAccessException. Of course I could just complain to the user that it can't do it  , but I'd prefer something more consistent with explorer and more friendly. So the question is:
How do I utilize the UAC prompt to perform file system operations (like making a new folder), in the same way explorer does? I would suspect there's some elevated COM invoked or something, so what/where would that be? If not, is explorer just running a temporary instance of itself as admin with a command line to execute the operation and then exit? Something else perhaps?

You can create a separate process that is marked in its manifest as
requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator"
You can also create the process using the "runas" verb:

Yes, I'm quite familiar with the ways to start a new elevated process. However, when you attempt to create a new folder in explorer, the UAC prompt is not asking you to permit starting an elevated application. The UAC prompt is specifically saying file operation. How do I do the same?
I know elevated operations can be achieved by using COM components. It does not elevate the process - and that is not my goal. My goal is to perform a file operation with elevated permissions utilizing the UAC prompt for file operations.

Edit: Looks like consent.exe is the actual prompt. No luck trying to invoke that using command line. After that an instance of DllHost.exe performed the operation - which screams "COM operation!"

Oh sorry, I thought this was the start of a joke. I have no idea what you are on about. Online payment; are you talking about their salary? If so, you'll need some form of bank system in place - a common mechanism to pay employees here in the UK is through BACS - what you choose will depend on where you live.

If you want to initiate online payment from your site you need a Merchant account in a Bank, a site verified by a certificate authority like verisign with https.
If a customer comes to your page and tries to make online payment he will be redirected to bank's website. From there the customer will enter his account no, password and amount everything.
Or you can use paypal.com

Is it possible in .NET (preferably VB.NET) to have the context menu of the title bar in the client area of a form? What I mean is what is also implemented in IE7, i.e. if you right-click on the stop/refresh/back button, it shows the same context menu as you get when right clicking on the title bar. Also, in IE7, double clicking at empty space makes the window maximize, but I think that isn't too difficult to implement using .NET (doubleclick event of form).

I doubt that you can simply "move" the menu. You could use a ContextMenu[^] - you'd have to mimic the behaviour of the desired menu-items.

Oh thanks, I hadn't thought about the idea of just using a ContextMenu - I'm always thinking about MenuStrips etc, but of course a normal ContextMenu would look like very much the same - thanks
