It may work, but it's not the best solution. Writing stuff to files and folders at the root should be avoided. Corporate policy usually restricts these areas for good reason. The may be a standard folder used for storing Log files that Windows doesn't normally use, or at least a well-known standard folder that should be used. The root of any drive is probably next to the last place you should be storing stuff.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to determine if you have a device that is hooked up to a port, for instance, COM 3. Let's say the computer goes into standby mode where the power is suspended. While in standby mode you remove the device from COM 3 and put it into COM 4. Is there a way to determine that using visual basic 6? Maybe there is a way to detect when your computer comes out of standby mode. That would help as well.
Thanks,
R

There is no standard method. You would have to test your communication to the device on the last known port it was connected to. If it fails, then you would have to poll all the available COM ports until you found it again, reset everything to a known state, then resume what you were doing. Or, just askl the user which COM port the device is now attached to, reset everything to a known state and resume.

It's possible to do. You would have to get the power notifications[^] by overriding the forms WindowProc. I couldn't tell you how to do it in VB6 because I haven't touched it in the last 8 years. Using VB.NET, it's quite easy.

It needs a bit of API trickery. There's a link to a message here which contains some example code, if you see past the atrocious formatting

Hi,
I want to load a form as readable only..
this form user can do editing on one instance but other instance I want the same form to be readable only.
thanks

You'll have to add code to the form to expose a "ReadOnly" property. You'll also have to provide code to disable all the controls on the form, or if any have a ReadOnly property, enable them. There is no one line of code that will do this for you.

I'm new to encryption, but have been searching high and low for answers for the past three days. Our bank wants us to FTP our payroll file via PGP. In the past we've used a modem to transfer the file. Years ago we used DOS command files, then VB6 and over five or six years ago I rewrote it in .NET.
I'm trying to basically code a FTP solution which is working fine with the bank. I just need code to encrypt the file in a PGP format prior to uploading.
There are several fine "Simplified Encryption" articles and VB solutions on CodeProject, but none of them really address PGP.
There is a C# wrapper to GNUPG which is accessed using an ASP webservice. I could have my Windows app access a Windows service to pull this webservice wrapper tied to the GNUPG.org windows app. Of course as soon as GNUPG.org puts out a new version my payroll app could break.
Isn't there a simpler way to encrypt the file in PGP format for the bank using .NET?
Any help is appreciated

None of the .NET Framework versions come with a PGP implementation. You'll have to use a third party library to do this. This[^] article looks promising.

I was hoping for a .NET Framework solution. I'm currently thinking about switching to SSL / TLS for a secure FTP. It looks like all I have to do is add EnableSSL = True to my ftp class. I'm still researching this, because the PGP solution was not simple at all and this seems way too simple.
Thanks for your answer! You've answered many of my questions over the past many years and it is always appreciated.

I am not making any promises, but you could try this:
Private Sub DataGridView1_CellValueChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles DataGridView1.CellValueChanged
DataGridView1.CurrentCell.Value = DataGridView1.CurrentCell.Value.ToString.ToUpper()
End Sub
My advice is free, and you may get what you paid for.

So you probably need to trap the keydown event and do it there.

It may be the keypress event you want, but its on the key press/down/up event that you need to do your conversion. Try putting code in all the key events for the control and run in debug to see what fires when.

its working on cellvaluechaged event
For x = 0 To MSF1.RowCount - 2
MSF1.Item(2, x).Value = MSF1.Item(2, x).Value.ToString.ToUpper()
lblJobname.Text = MSF1.CurrentCell.Value
Next x
but same problem occur in instance of display entered information.

I would suggest you buy a basic VB book and read it. You're doing a string comparison, and you need instead to convert the string to a number.

Since I'm in a good mood:
if isnumeric(txtqty.text) andalso integer.parse(txtqty.text) > 2 then
'do stuff here
else
'do stuff here
end if
should do it
But take CG's advice and go back to reading a book first, this is very basic stuff

Of course, this code will explode if the user types in anything other than numbers.

Why?
Just tested it and it doesn't
Read the code carefully CG. (tip: 'isnumeric')
And even if it does a nice explosion now and then isn't that bad
