I used the same logic you provided for other columns that had a similar issue. The good part is the ‘2;#’ and ‘float;#’ disappeared from the Data View.
Now the one thing I’m still having trouble with is editing the calculation columns. For example I have a ‘Tonnage Capacity’ column, which is a calculation on the initial lists (tonnage capacity = pallet capacity * 1500). In my data view I am able to edit all my normal columns to a number format with 0 decimal places. However, when I format the Tonnage Capacity column to number format the values disappear. Is there a way around this?
I have just changed V4.master in shraepoint designer 2010 and saved it after that I came back and changed it to default format,
Now when I change themes for Home site (parent for all other web sites for themes)just child web sites change and the in home web site just the color of links and libraries change. I can not change the theme of home site and it is like a fixed custom design.
The masterpage used by child sites can change independent of the root masterpage, especially with publishing sites or if code has been run on the child sites, perhaps with feature stapling when the site was created.
I have inserted a dataview webpart of a list(example LIST-B) in the display form of another list(example LIST-A). Inline editing to insert new records has been enabled in this dataview.
Is it possible to autofill some of the fields in the dataview when a new record is added by retrieving parameters from LIST-A displayed in the dispform by using webpart connections. If this is possible, i request you to kindly guide me in this regards.
We have many custom asp.net applications which need user management (login, authentication, lost password, add or delete users, update profile etc.), logging (actions, search logs, connection problems etc.), content approval and content upload.
Each application is duplicating the above functionality and I want to get rid of the duplicated effort.
My question is:
Can I create 1 custom asp.net application which will use the WSS at the back end to handle most of the above? So basically I will create a web user interface and use the sharepoint sdk and database to do the aforementioned.
Or do you have some other suggestion?
Artificial Intelligence is no match for Human Stupidity.
1. SharePoint is compatible with the ASP.NET MembershipProvider, which is where *most* of the user functionality you seek lies.
2. SharePoint has lists and document libraries which you could leverage for the content functionality you mentioned.
Do take note of some of the strengths and weaknesses of sharepoint though - even if you plan to use the "free" version.
I am new to sharepoint and trying to setup development environment. I have installed windows server 2003. As WSS is embeded in Windows Server 2003 R2 which is not my case as i only have Windows Server 2003 SP2. What should i need to do to setup WSS 3.0? Simply downloading and installing WSS 3.0 will do the job?

I am trying to use PortalSiteMapProvider to create a tree view Site Map, however, secruity trimming is limiting the results. If you access the page anonymously or with permissions to a grandchild site only, the tree does not build because the provider is empty. I have tried using RunWithElevatedPrivileges with no success. Everything I read about SiteMap providers say the bey default do not use security trimming unless you set the flag to true in the web config. I have verified it is not set.
I am open to all suggestions to include a completlydifferent solution for a treeview sitemap.
I am including a simple version of the code with the treeview removed.
// Gets a new security context using SHAREPOINT\system
using (SPSite site = new SPSite(this.Page.Request.Url.ToString()))
using (SPWeb thisWeb = site.OpenWeb())
PortalSiteMapProvider sitemapprovider = (PortalSiteMapProvider)SiteMap.Providers["GlobalNavSiteMapProvider"];
foreach (SiteMapNode node in sitemapprovider.GetChildNodes(sitemapprovider.TryGetRootNode))
//Use the child node
this.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(node.Title + "<br>"));
this.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(node.Key + "<br>"));
this.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(node.Url + "<br>"));
I have been asked to write a script which retrieves .tif files from document libraries along with its meta data and also convert .pdf files to .tif files. I really don't have any idea to write this code. Please help me out and give me a solution ASAP. Thanks in advance!!
