In the migration from windows 8 to windows 10 on a new computer I now have some previous programs that will not run in debug mode.
The message given is: "This task requires the application to have elevated permissions." I understand the message, but I am wanting to have an application that does not require elevated permissions, so how do I find which line of code require it.
Is there a tool I can use to find which lines of code or declarations create the elevated permission requirements. I am using Visual studio 2017 (VB).
I can find plenty of web pages telling me how to run the code as administrator, but would appreciate help on how to locate the offending code.
It is a desktop app publishes as a oneclick application, but on my new computer I cannot even start debugging because the error message appears after build and before run.
If I try and deploy the previous published version I get a similar error message requiring elevated privileges, but the log file is a bit more useful from previous publish of code and states that the item system.runtime.interopservices.COMexception requires elevation.
Unfortunately that code is used in one area as part of the try..catch routine to give a user friendly warning message so reluctant to remove and there may be more issues on other lines of code.
Obviously there is something different about deploy a published app in Windows 10 compared to windows 8 where it did run (after asking for user permission), but I do not know where to look or how to debug - any ideas.
It is not in a line of code, it is in the application manifest. This may be a separate text file (with the .manifest extension), or a #pragma comment in one of the source files, or the settings in the Project Properties
I created an xll excel add-in with Visual C++ 2013 and Excel 2007/2010/2013 XLL SDK package. In the application I have to load a third party dll which depends on MSVCR90.dll for release version and MSVCR90D.dll for debug version. But I don't know how to load the MSVCR90D.dll in the project. What I tried is to create an additional manifest file or use a pragma comment instead in the code like
It works in win32 console application but not in xll application.
Also I wonder why in the xll application all the release version of msvcr dll including MSVCR90.dll, MSVCR100.dll and MSVCR120.dll are automatically loaded if they are installed in windows system. Since I am working in vc++ 2013, msvcr120d.dll is loaded as well.
Can anyone tell me how msvcr90d.dll can be loaded as well?
visual c++ 2008/2010/2013 redistributable packages are installed.

So I haven't taken any programming since college, and I want to start learning again. I'm not looking for anyone to do it for me, but I'm hoping someone can point me toward some good resources for my first little project.
I'm trying to make a vb program in Visual Studio 2017that will allow a librarian at our school to set a user password. All I need is for her to enter their username, the password she wants set, and punch the button and get a message back if it was successful or not. She has right to the Students OU to reset passwords.
I've got the interface built, two boxes with Username and Password, and a submit button. So I need to find some resources on how to use the System.DirectoryServices to setPassword for the user entered in TextBox1 with the text entered in TextBox2, and to deliver the message if it was successful or not.
Can someone point me to some websites or videos that would help me with a project like this? Something with some good info and examples so I can learn as I work on this project?
I need help in deciding what tools I should choose for building applications for the desktop, web and mobile.
I'm looking at Visual Studio and PC Soft's suite of tools. I'm currently playing around with both and after seeing the kind of time investment required, I had better stop and make sure to choose the right toolset to avoid changing later and starting over.
If you have experience with both, I'd love to hear from you... I already know PCSoft users will say PCSoft and VS users will say VS, but what is really needed is advice from someone that has experiences with both as only they can properly compare the two. Lets start with a few questions...
1. Any of you currently use or have used PC Soft's WinDev, WebDev and/ or WinDev Mobile?
2. Do you use both?
3. Did you try PC Soft's suite but stayed with VS? and why?
4. If you started over, what would you choose as your primary toolset? and why?
Any and all suggestions is greatly appreciated...
Hello! I have a form with 2 textboxes and one buttton. Now, suppose the button displays a messagebox, something like this : msgbox("Hello world")! So, what i want is, the button wouldn't show the msgbox until both the textboxes have something typed in it!
i've tried the "IF" command, but as far as i see it, the if command only adds one condition!
For example ,
"IF TEXTBOX1.TEXT="" then msgbox("please fill in the form") else msgbox("Hellow world")""
But as i just said i have 2 textboxes, so is there a way to put both the textboxes in one single IF command? Something like: "IF THEXTBOX1.TEXT="" AND TEXTBOX2.TEXT="" THEN MSGBOX("PLEASE FILL IN THE FORM") ELSE MSGBOX("HELLO WORLD")??
One more thing , i want the msgbox to to show "HELLO WORLD" only when both the textboxes have something , if any of them are remained empty then msgbox will say " PLEASE FILL IN THE FORM"
So , how should i do it ?
Hello! I have created a database software in vs 2013! But the problem is, the program loads a database created by ms access, i mean the program loads the database from an (.aacdb) file stored in the program directory! but is there a way to create a custom file type but my vb program will detect it as a databse and user will be able to read and write data in to the database from vb but the database will have a different file extension. For example: userdata.abc instead of userdata.aacdb...So is there a way to do so??
