You need to marshall the change back to the UI using RunAsync on the Dispatcher. If memory serves, something like this should serve (I'm typing this in the editor so the method name might not be 100% correct - time for Intellisense I'm afraid):
Windows::UI::Core::CoreWindow::GetForCurrentThread()->Dispatcher->RunAsync(CoreDispatcherPriority::Low, []()
{
  OnPropertyChanged("Total");
});
