I started coding in C# 3 years ago and have not looked back ever since. My productivity has greatly increased. I do not miss C++ at all.

If that fits your needs, by all means go for it. It's, after all, right tool for the job.

They are actually getting more. Over christmas I threw Visual Studio off my notebook, along with the rest of the Mickeysoft stuff. And then I got myself a nice free IDE, the Open Watcom C++ compiler and tons of open source libraries.
Ok, the Watcom compiler once was one of the best you could have, but probably has not kept up well after it was not commercial anymore. It probably will eventually have to be replaced, but for now it is a pleasure to use it again.

Check out clang[^], although (unless you fancy struggling with the hell that is GNU on Windows) you may need to get MSVC back on to get it built.

I just showed a 1920x1200 full screen Mandelbrot renderer to my C# coworkers that allowed you to zoom in using the mouse wheel, and left-click-drag to pan around. Works at 50 frames per second using double precision math so you can zoom in to the point where the whole set would be the size of the orbit of Pluto. Possible due to it being coded in Microsoft's C++AMP and exectuted on a high end AMD graphics card. Whos Cool Now!

I saw that same sample code in Visual C++ 2012. It is extremely cool. I wish I understood the Direct X components of that software.

I wrote my own C++/AMP routine because all the samples I saw only used single precision floating point which gives you a very shallow zoom before you can't generate any more detail. There isn't much to the DirectX side, just setting up the device, the thing which I found confused others when they looked at the code was the C++ Lambda function which you can find described here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_function#C.2B.2B[^]

I completely agree with you. Once you learn C++, C# and Java got really easy to learn.

C# and it's ilk are just cheap knock-offs of the real thing.
