PITTSBURGH, PA – November 19, 2013 – ComponentOne a division of GrapeCity, the largest component solution provider in the Microsoft Visual Studio Partner Ecosystem, has released ComponentOne Studio Enterprise 2013 v3. ComponentOne Studio Enterprise is a world-renowned suite of data and UI controls for Microsoft Visual Studio, including Windows Store and HTML5 tools. The highlights of the v3 release include the addition of theming in WinForms and ASP.NET Wijmo, new ASP.NET Wijmo mobile controls, Visual Studio 2013 support, Visual Studio 2013-compatible Bootstrap support, and Windows 8.1 support.
“Our 2013 v3 release of ComponentOne Studio Enterprise offers developers the tools to build the most modern touch-enabled apps, along with tools for maintaining and updating legacy applications,” said Greg Lutz, product manager at ComponentOne. “The v3 release further strengthens our commitment of helping developers deliver rich, responsive desktop and web apps on time and under budget.”
C1Themes is a brand new theming solution that allows developers to create and apply custom and pre-baked themes to the WinForms controls included in Studio Enterprise. This new solution allows for ComponentOne controls to be seamlessly integrated into existing applications, keeping the user interface consistent while adding the functionality that developers need.
To take web applications from functional to beautiful, ComponentOne has introduced ThemeRoller for ASP.NET Wijmo in the v3 release of Studio Enterprise. Developers may access ThemeRoller through the Visual Studio designer to customize and apply application-wide themes without CSS so they can spend less time designing and more time coding.
Microsoft has added new Project Templates in Visual Studio 2013 that use a theming framework called Bootstrap. “We have enhanced our support for developers working in Visual Studio 2013 by officially supporting Bootstrap in Studio Enterprise v3,” said Lutz. “By designing our controls to integrate seamlessly with Bootstrap, Visual Studio 2013 clients will have a vast amount of tools available for building their web applications.”
The Studio for WinRT XAML studio continues to expand this release with Windows 8.1 support. Lutz stated, “We have improved the popular C1PdfViewer control to take advantage of the new PDF API, making ComponentOne among the first to deliver the new Windows 8.1 API in an easy-to-use control.” “Plus, we have also improved the C1FlexGrid and C1RichTextBox controls while adding some new sparkline and drop-down controls to help with data visualization and data input.”
The Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Silverlight control suites debut new Office 2013 inspired themes for providing entire applications a modern desktop look and feel. “Plus, to our popular FlexGrid control we’ve added a Grouping Panel that puts grouping control into the hands of the end-user,” said Lutz. “And since it’s FlexGrid you know you can customize the grouping to meet your requirements.”

DevOps for Database common in Government sector. Security and telecom sectors also increasing adoption
Tel Aviv, November 19, 2013 - DBmaestro (www.DBmaestro.com), the pioneer and leading provider of DevOps for Database solutions, announced today its analysis of new companies adopting DevOps for Database with DBmaestro. Over the past year, financial sector companies had the highest increased demand for Database Enforced Change Management (DECM) tools. Over 40 percent of new DBmaestro customers originated from this industry.
Within the financial sector, 60 percent of DBmasetro's new clients are banks and insurance companies which find themselves more exposed to risk. In addition, DevOps for Database is becoming widespread in other markets. DBmaestro’s findings show that new customers from the government sector made up about 20 percent of the new DECM demand. Security and telecom sectors each made up approximately 10 percent of new DevOps for Database demand in 2013. The software and retail sectors each made up about 5 percent of new companies committed to DevOps.
“A loss of database control in the banking and financial sector can be catastrophic”, said Yariv Tabac, Co-CEO of DBmaestro. “The increase of new customers from financial institutions demonstrate that financial companies, which must have absolute confidence in the integrity and quality of their database code, recognize the benefits which DevOps for Database provides. We expect these trends to continue in the government and security sectors as well as other industries which are seeking automation, control and enforced change management over their Database.”

IFPUG is pleased to announce the results of the world’s first certification exam for the Software Non-functional Assessment Process (SNAP) size measurement held at ISMA 8 in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. Twenty exam participants were awarded the title of “Certified SNAP Practitioner.” This first class of certified practitioners joins the hundreds of Certified Function Point Specialists across the globe certified by the International Function Point Users Group.
The Software Non-functional Assessment Process (SNAP) provides a quantifiable measure for the Non-Functional Requirements (NFR) which allows organizations to build historical data that can be referenced to assist in decision making for the technical and/or quality aspects of applications. Non-functional requirements which until the advent of SNAP have not been consistently measureable, can contribute substantially to the effort required to bring software projects to market. The inability to measure non-functional size has been one the major reasons that many software projects are late or over budget.
The SNAP standard provides organizations using IFPUG measures with a unique competitive advantage to those using other software sizing methods which do not account for non-functional software size. The Software Non-functional Assessment Process (SNAP) Assessment Practices Manual is released under a Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License. IFPUG is the first international functional sizing standards organization to release a sizing standard under the Creative Commons License.
For more information about the IFPUG, visit www.ifpug.org.
About IFPUG
The International Function Point Users Group (IFPUG), a non-profit, volunteer organization, maintains the rules and procedures for calculating Function Points and the Software Non-functional Assessment Process (SNAP). The definitions, available from IFPUG, are documented in the Function Point Counting Practices Manual. IFPUG, the premier software measurement organization, promotes and encourages the effective management of software development and maintenance activities through the use of Function Point Analysis and other software measurement techniques. IFPUG conferences, workshops and membership provide a forum for networking, education and information exchange that encourages the use of software product and process metrics. Webinar will examine how AgilePath optimized the connectivity, reliability and supportability of infrastructure for a United States Air Force program using WSO2 Governance Registry
Palo Alto, CA – November 14, 2013 – Technology adoption cycles continue to evolve as virtual machines and cloud-based solutions cut system deployment times down to hours. However the way system components talk to each other and connect has been slower to change, and point-to-point solutions remain pervasive throughout most modern infrastructures. To help address this challenge, WSO2 will host a case study webinar on using a service registry to enhance the supportability and reliability of infrastructure in a key United States Air Force (USAF) program.
The Webinar, “WSO2 and AgilePath - How the WSO2 Governance Registry is being used for a key Air Force Program,” will presented jointly by WSO2 and AgilePath Corporation, the IT professional services firm that implemented the USAF project. The session will be held Wednesday, November 20, from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. PST. For more information, visit: http://wso2.com/library/webinars/2013/11/wso2-and-agile-path-how-the-wso2-governance-registry-is-being-used-for-a-key-air-force-program.
Enhancing Service Registry in the Air Force with WSO2 Governance Registry
The webinar will begin by examining how organizations that once feared the idea of loosely coupled systems connected with Web services are now chasing the curve with a cloud-enabled “as a service” paradigm, bringing a new set of challenges. These include unsanctioned applications, duplication of existing functionality, and the inability to document services in a central location.
The session will discuss how a service registry can serve as a tool to solve “as a service” challenges while improving the supportability and reliability of the infrastructure. It then will review how AgilePath selected WSO2 Governance Registry (http://wso2.com/products/governance-registry/) to provide well documented, easy-to-identify services with the ability to track service consumers. Additionally, it will discuss how AgilePath has extended the core data model to meet the needs of a key Air Force Program.
Session topics will include:
• An introduction to AgilePath.
• A discussion of service registry fundamentals.
• An overview of the registry tool selection process.
• How WSO2 Governance Registry is being used for a key USAF program.
• WSO2 Governance Registry product vision and core features.
Webinar Presenters

New Version Adds Enhanced Translation Editor, More TM Connections, Enhanced Search and Matching, Segmentation Rules Editor, Streamlined Termbase Editor, Enhanced Word and PowerPoint Support, and More
La Jolla, CA, USA — November 5, 2013 — MadCap Software, Inc. the leader in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Visual Studio® and Microsoft® XPS, today announced the launch of MadCap Lingo 8.0, the latest release of MadCap’s XML-based computer assisted translation (CAT) tool. Content developers worldwide have adopted the CAT tool along with the MadPak technical communications suite to deliver consistent documentation experiences across multiple languages—in print and on the Web, mobile devices and desktops. With Version 8.0, MadCap adds significant new functionality to support the broader needs of translation and localization professionals.
New features in MadCap Lingo 8.0 include:
* Advanced translation editor
* Streamlined termbase editor
* Support for multiple translation memory (TM) connections
* Enhanced support for Microsoft® Word™ and
* PowerPoint® documents
* SQLite database support, concordance search
* Support for 101% matches.
* New segmentation rules editor
“We first developed MadCap Lingo to support a superior and streamlined translation experience for authors needing to translate content into multiple languages. Since then, we have seen a rapid adoption of MadCap Lingo as a robust standalone CAT product that not only benefits the author during content creation, saving content authors time and money, but also is used by translators and localization experts worldwide in the translation process of any content,” said Anthony Olivier, MadCap Founder and CEO. “With MadCap Lingo 8.0, we are building on this success to deliver a state-of-the-art product that addresses the broad set of demands facing today’s translation and localization professionals to enhance the quality of their translations while also facilitating collaboration and streamlining the authoring and localization process.”
MadCap Lingo 8.0 – Designed for Translation Professionals’ Demands
MadCap Lingo 8.0 delivers significantly expanded functionality designed for translation and localization professionals’ needs.
Advanced Translation Editor
Starting with this version, there is no longer an area in the editor designated specifically for performing translation work. Instead, translations are now done directly in the target segment cells, and these cells initially appear empty and without background color to eliminate clutter. Also, a new option that lets users automatically copy a number from the source to the target cell, helping to ensure that users do not accidentally retype an incorrect number during the translation.
A new segment filter has been added at the top of the Translation Editor, which can be used to limit the segments shown in the editor and helps the translator to make sure that terms are consistent throughout a file. It is also now possible to add notes for each segment, such as a reminder to do additional research about a term or an explanation for a reviewer about why a particular translation was used.
Additionally, several options are now available from the context menu when a user right-clicks a segment in the Translation Editor. These include Cut, Copy, Paste, Confirm (confirms the translation), Split Segment (breaks the segment at the point where the cursor is placed), and Join Segments (merges selected segments into a single segment).
Support for Multiple Translation Memory Connections
In previous versions, users could select one TM database per Lingo project. Starting with Version 8.0, users can connect multiple TM databases to their products. To support this change, the user interface has been modified in the Start New Project Wizard and the dialog used for choosing a TM database. MadCap Lingo also adds the ability to import more TM file types, including: SDLXLIFF (newer SDL Trados files), TTX (older SDL Trados files), and TXML (Wordfast files).
SQLite Database Support
MadCap Lingo now supports SQLite, which is a self-contained open source relational database system. In Lingo, SQLite offers an easier and faster option for local TM databases, and it is automatically installed during the process of installing Lingo. For TMs residing on an external server, the preferred option is still SQL Express, which is more robust.
Segmentation Rules Editor
With Version 8.0, MadCap Lingo provides two ways for users to either join segments in the Translation together or split them apart. This can be accomplished automatically by creating segmentation rules using the format specified by the Segmentation Rules eXchange (SRX) standard. Alternatively, users can join or split segments manually.
Streamlined Termbase Editor
The Termbase Editor has been significantly streamlined. In contrast to previous MadCap Lingo versions where different options were located in multiple dialogs, the editor in Version 8.0 has been flattened to include all options. As a result, translators can add terms for various languages with their respective metadata—including gender, part of speech, usage, and more—all in the same place.
Concordance Search
MadCap Lingo lets translators use a concordance to perform advanced searches in one or more TMs. This means users can search for words they have already translated to maintain consistency. The concordance searches across the entire TM, greatly simplifying the ability to get into previously used terminology. In contrast, the search filter in the Translation Editor looks only in the current file.
Support for 101% Matches
In addition to exact and fuzzy matches, MadCap Lingo now supports context matches (also known as "101% matches") in the TM, as well as repetition segments, increasing the efficiency of updates. Context matches consider the context by looking the segments before and after the one in question when making the TM suggestion. Meanwhile repetitions address segments that are identical within the same file (not from the TM). Finally, context repetition considers segments both in the TM and in the file.
Enhanced Microsoft® Word™ and PowerPoint Support
MadCap Lingo 8.0 provides cleaner imports of Microsoft® Word files, so there are far fewer tags in Word segments when they are displayed in the Translation Editor. Additionally, users can now preview both Microsoft® Word™ and Microsoft® PowerPoint® segments in the Translation Editor, enabling translators to see the content as it will actually be seen by others.
MadCap Lingo 8.0 Features to be Presented at ATA Conference
MadCap will demonstrate MadCap Lingo 8.0 at the American Translators Association 54th Annual Conference (ATA), which runs November 6-9, 2013, at the Marriott Rivercenter in San Antionio, TX. Visit Madcap at Booth #46.
Additionally MadCap Product Evangelist Jose Sermeno will present a tutorial at ATA, “Using MadCap Lingo for Localization”. This beginner-level demonstration will illustrate typical workflow models for using MadCap Lingo from the vantage point of the content developer managing the translation process (sending content out for translation), as well as the independent translator working with the files to provide translated material.
* When: Thursday, 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
* Where: Conference 18, Third Floor

“Enterprises that embrace technologies, such as the cloud, managed APIs, mobile, social networking, and open source are gaining a competitive edge through new models of agility, business ecosystems, monetization and efficiency,” observed Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana. “We are empowering these connected businesses by building on our award-winning 100% open source cloud and enterprise middleware to deliver solutions that foster integration, collaboration and sharing—while ensuring the robust governance and management that these organizations demand.”
Building on a Track Record of Cloud Innovation
In his presentation, Dr. Weerawarana will unveil the WSO2 Public Cloud family, which represents the company’s next generation of public platform as a service (PaaS). Replacing the broad, general-purpose WSO2 StratosLive public PaaS, WSO2 Public Cloud offerings are being tailored to the specific use cases enterprises require today. The first three offerings to be launched are also available for preview today at https://cloudpreview.wso2.com. They include:
• WSO2 App Cloud, an application PaaS (aPaaS) designed to reduce costs and accelerate application development and delivery with integrated ALM and DevOps tools.
• WSO2 Integration Cloud, the multi-tenant integration PaaS (iPaaS) that enables development, execution and governance of cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-enterprise integrations.
• WSO2 API Cloud, which lets organizations expose business capabilities as managed APIs and provides off-the-shelf potential for advertising and selling business APIs.
The three public clouds build on the capabilities of WSO2 App Factory and WSO2 API Manager. WSO2 App Factory, which launched in July 2013, enables continuous cloud delivery through a shared, self-service, multi-tenant and elastic enterprise DevOps platform, which supports complete application life cycle development. WSO2 API Manager, available since August 2012, is the first 100% open source API management product to combine easy, managed API access with full API governance and analysis. Significantly, since all WSO2 products are based on the same multi-tenant, cloud-enabled code, enterprises can deploy seamlessly across public and private clouds, on-premises servers, and hybrid environments.
Expanding Commitment to Apache and Open Source
From the start, all WSO2 software products and cloud services have been and continue to be 100% open source solutions released under the Apache License 2.0. They do not carry any licensing fees.
In his keynote, Dr. Weerawarana will discuss how WSO2 has expanded on its commitment to the Apache Software Foundation and open source by donating the WSO2 Stratos PaaS foundation to ASF. Apache Stratos (incubating) is a framework, which features a cartridge-based architecture that allows cloud and non-cloud native software alike to plug-in and gain cloud capabilities.
Dr. Weerawarana also will outline WSO2’s plans for WSO2 Private PaaS software that will replace WSO2 Stratos and enable IT organizations to create a private PaaS. WSO2 Private PaaS will include an instance of the Apache Stratos framework, WSO2 Carbon multi-tenant cloud-enabled middleware, and additional capabilities.

Newest releases of WSO2’s cloud-enabled middleware introduce an industry first with multi-profile support; add synchronous deployment of artifacts and support for Hazelcast
Palo Alto, CA – October 30, 2013 – Enterprises are embracing the cloud, mobile, APIs and social networking to create new connections across employees, customers and partners. These connected businesses are realizing new models of agility, business collaboration, monetization and efficiency, but they also face new demands on the performance and governance of their applications and services. WSO2 today announced several new capabilities to address these demands with the latest release of the award-winning 100% open source WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform.
WSO2 Carbon 4.2 is the industry’s first enterprise middleware platform designed from the core to run both on-premises and in the cloud. Today’s launch includes:
• Version 4.2 of the WSO2 Carbon core framework delivers major enhancements, including support for Hazelcast, multi-profile deployment support—an industry first, and synchronous deployment of artifacts. All products in the fully componentized WSO2 Carbon platform inherit these capabilities.
• WSO2 API Manager 1.5 features several enhancements for managing access and service levels through throttling and user access tokens.
• WSO2 Governance Registry 4.6 enhances content management by adding support for the OASIS Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification.
“In the era of the connected business, enterprises are expanding their IT ecosystems and employing new models of collaboration and monetization across customers, partners and employees,” said Paul Fremantle, WSO2 co-founder and CTO. “The launch of WSO2 Carbon 4.2, WSO2 API Manager 1.5, and WSO2 Governance 4.6 provide powerful, open solutions to support high performance, high availability, and high scalability across these mission-critical environments. Equally important, they support the broad range of content that drives businesses today, along with fine-tuned management of access and service-levels to optimize business models for greater competitive advantage.”
WSO2 also announced today the launch of WSO2 Enterprise Store, the first complete platform for managing and provisioning any type of digital asset—applications, APIs, gadgets, e-books and other resources—for the entire enterprise asset life cycle. As part of the WSO2 Carbon platform, the new product also inherits the functionality in WSO2 Carbon 4.2. (For more information, see the WSO2 Enterprise Store press release dated October 30, 2013.)
WSO2 Carbon 4.2 Expands Core Capabilities
WSO2 Carbon is the industry’s first fully componentized middleware platform for creating, running and managing composite applications and Web services within a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and cloud environment. Built on the OSGi specification, WSO2 Carbon lets developers easily deploy and customize any of its WSO2 Carbon-based middleware products, and the 175-plus components on which they are comprised, providing greater flexibility and agility to meet changing enterprise demands.
The WSO2 Carbon core framework provides all WSO2 middleware products with a consistent set of enterprise-class management, security, clustering, logging, statistics, tracing, and other capabilities. The cloud-enabled WSO2 Carbon core lets IT professionals write an application once and then simply deploy it on the same middleware on-premise, on a PaaS, or in a hybrid environment. Additionally, the inherent multi-tenancy allows organizations to manage isolation between departments, partners or simply between separate development groups—whether deploying software as a service (SaaS) or running it directly on servers.
New capabilities in Version 4.2 of the WSO2 Carbon core include support for Hazelcast, multi-profile deployment support—an industry first, and synchronous deployment of artifacts.
Hazelcast Support – With Version 4.2, the WSO2 Carbon core adds new distributed caching and clustering implementations that are based on Hazelcast, the open source in-memory data grid that provides a clustering and highly scalable data distribution platform for Java. Hazelcast combines distributed data structures, distributed caching capabilities, elasticity, memcache support, and integration with Spring and Hibernate. These capabilities bring several benefits to enterprise deployments, including the ability to handle thousands of operations per second, prevent the loss of data after crashes, and dynamically scale as new servers are added. Complementing the Hazelcast-based distributed caching and clustering implementations is a new caching infrastructure available with WSO2 Carbon 4.2.
Multi-profile Deployment Support – WSO2 introduces an industry first with multi-profile deployment support, which helps IT organizations to improve their resource utilization. Now instead of running all the features of a product or platform, developers can select a “preferred profile,” which runs only the features specific to that profile along with common features that start up with the server. For example, an IT organization may decide to run just the API Store instead of the full WSO2 API Manager product. Selecting the API Store profile then starts only the frontend/backend features relevant to the API Store Web interface.
Synchronous Deployment of Artifacts – WSO2 Carbon 4.2 now enables synchronous deployment of Carbon Application (CApp) artifacts. The Carbon Application Deployer is a collection of different artifacts bundled to a single deployable component. When deploying a CApp on any WSO2 product, it directly deploys all the relevant artifacts for the product by programmatically calling the relevant artifact deployers. The deployment of the artifacts is synchronous while the artifact deployment is atomic. As a result, if the CApp is deployed successfully, the artifacts are guaranteed to have deployed successfully as well.
WSO2 API Manager 1.5 Enhances Access and Service-Level Options
Version 1.5 is the latest release of WSO2 API Manager, the first 100% open source API management product to combine easy, managed API access with full API governance and analysis. It also is the first API management product to let IT organizations set up their own Apple or Google Marketplace-like API Store where developers can easily subscribe to and consume APIs. Meanwhile it provides API publishers with complete API lifecycle governance—from creating to publishing, deprecating and retiring APIs—as well as analytics and metrics to support decision-making and enforce service-level agreement (SLA) policies.
In addition to the capabilities inherited with WSO2 Carbon 4.2, WSO2 API Manager 1.5 adds several enhancements for managing availability and access. With Version 1.5, publishers can restrict API access throttling tiers for some users in order to better monetize API usage. WSO2 API Manager 1.5 also supports API resource-level throttling, as well as the ability to add extra properties for each throttling tier level and display them in the API Store along with the subscription process.
Expanded token capabilities in WSO2 API Manager 1.5 allow publishers to renew application access tokens through the API Store, set a token validity period through the user interface (UI), and revoke access tokens using the revoke API if there is a security violation. Version 1.5 also supports the OAuth 2.0 Authorization Grant Type, as well as the ability to obtain an OAuth 2.0 access token from a SAML 2.0 Bearer assertion. Additionally, it provides the option to encrypt access tokens when they are stored.
Other key features available with WSO2 API Manager 1.5 include:
• New Sandbox API Gateway – Users can maintain a sandbox API Gateway instance that is separate from the production environment.
• New Custom Mediation Extensions – Developers can unleash the power of the mediation engine from the embedded WSO2 ESB directly from the publishing UI and extend the default request and response mediation flows.
• New JSONMate Editor – Integrated with API Publisher, it enhances the user experience in modifying the JSON content of Swagger API definitions.
• Ability to advertise an API to multiple stores, including non-WSO2 stores.
• Enhanced HTTP/HTTPS Support – The UI now supports the ability to select either or both HTTP and HTTPS as the API’s endpoints at the time an API is created.
WSO2 Governance Registry 4.6 Adds CMIS Support
WSO2 Governance Registry is a structured registry and repository providing comprehensive, out-of-the-box support for service-oriented architecture (SOA) governance, configuration governance, development process governance, design and run-time governance, and life cycle management. Together with WSO2 Governance Registry’s socially enabled interface, these capabilities facilitate team collaboration in the management, ranking and reuse of enterprise applications and Web services.
WSO2 Governance Registry 4.6 significantly enhances document and content management. It achieves this by adding support for the OASIS Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification, which is used to control diverse document management systems and repositories using Web protocols. Also available with Version 4.6 are:
• WSO2 capabilities inherited with Version 4.2 of the WSO2 Carbon core.
• New APIs, including a REST API for the Registry and a Governance API for life cycle state transition.
• Enhanced Registry Extension (RTX), adding a life cycle to the RXT definition and RXT life cycle workflow integration, among other functions.
• New asset models for WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus.
• Additional new features, including a sample data populator, notification for approvals, and pagination for the registry.
• Additional enhancements, including first-class support for WADL, offline WSDL validation, enhanced UDDI support, and registry check-in client improvements.
Availability and Support
WSO2 Carbon 4.2, WSO2 API Manager 1.5, and WSO2 Governance Registry 4.6 are in production and available today. As fully open source solutions released under the Apache License 2.0, they do not carry any licensing fees.
All three products can run directly on server hardware or in a virtualized environment, such as an Amazon or VMware cloud, bringing the efficiencies of multi-tenancy and self-service to on-premises deployments. The cloud-ready software also can plug into WSO2’s platform as a service (PaaS) software to operate as part of a PaaS, adding cloud-native capabilities, such as elastic scaling, expanded self-service provisioning, metering, billing, and storage, among others. This enables IT professionals to deploy their implementations on-premises, on a PaaS, or in a hybrid environment from the same software.
WSO2’s products are backed by a world-class technical team in which the experts that helped create the software provide support, leading to direct and immediate access to the people with in-depth knowledge of the middleware. Production support starts at $10,000 per server instance per year. In addition to production support, WSO2 service and support options include evaluation support, development support, and special QuickStartSM consulting programs.

Socially enabled WSO2 Enterprise Store is a complete platform for managing any type of digital asset: APIs, mobile and Web applications, e-books, gadgets, websites and more
Palo Alto, CA – October 30, 2013 – Mobile computing, the cloud, APIs and social networking are opening doors to new business models and connections across employees, customers and partners. However, they are also spurring a proliferation of disparate resources that are difficult to access and often disconnected from enterprises’ strategic initiatives, core operational systems, and corporate policies. WSO2 is addressing this challenge with today’s debut of WSO2 Enterprise Store (http://wso2.com/products/enterprise-store/), the first complete platform for managing and provisioning any type of digital asset—applications, APIs, gadgets, e-books and other resources—across the entire enterprise asset life cycle.
“By 2017, 25% of enterprises will have an enterprise app store for managing corporate-sanctioned apps on PCs and mobile devices,” Gartner predicts in the report, Enterprise App Stores Can Increase the ROI of the App Portfolio1. The report continues, “Enterprise app stores can make end users aware of low-cost in-house, open-source and commercial alternatives, creating more diverse and competitive automated software requiring less procurement intervention.”
The 100% open source WSO2 Enterprise Store expands on the concept of the enterprise application store. It enables IT organizations to set up their own Apple or Google Marketplace-like store where business users and developers alike can easily discover and subscribe to not only applications, but also APIs, e-books, gadgets, websites and any other asset types the enterprise chooses to offer. Only WSO2 provides a socially enabled enterprise store, so users can rate and review assets. Meanwhile, back-office life cycle management and governance ensure compliance with corporate and IT policies and procedures.
“Today’s connected businesses are capitalizing on technologies, such as the cloud, mobile, APIs and social networking, to gain a competitive edge through new models of agility, business collaboration, monetization and efficiency. However, accessing the many diverse assets supporting these initiatives is often like searching for the proverbial needle in a haystack,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO. “With the launch of our WSO2 Enterprise Store, organizations for the first time have a cohesive and comprehensive platform for effectively managing and accessing all of their digital assets while providing an intuitive, social consumer-like experience that fosters adoption.”
WSO2 Enterprise Store for Access to Any Digital Asset
WSO2 Enterprise Store enables users to manage and provision the entire enterprise asset life cycle, for any type of asset in one store. It provides both an Enterprise Store Front and Enterprise Back-Office.
Enterprise Store Front
The Enterprise Store Front is a central multi-tenant store that helps to increase the visibility of enterprise assets, and it can be viewed by a range of devices, including tablets. The customizable Store Front displays all asset types, as well as providing a navigation menu for them, and it can search based on asset attributes, tags or other categories. Each asset is given an individual page with comments, rating, tags and other details of the asset for easy reference, and users are provided a personalized “My Items” corner to display subscribed assets.
The Enterprise Store Front facilitates social interaction by allowing users to add asset reviews, rate assets, and “like” or “dislike” the asset reviews. The asset reviews are automatically filtered based on their popularity and date added, enabling users to gauge the quality of the available assets based on the user feedback. Users also can take advantage of filtering to sort by name and category.
Enterprise Back-Office
The Enterprise Back-Office provides a powerful and flexible platform for adding assets and managing them throughout the entire asset lifecycle—from creation to retirement—while also allowing users to maintain asset versioning. It features built-in support for provisioning, managing and promoting three asset types: gadgets, websites, and e-books. In addition, an extensibility mechanism enables users to add new asset types, such as APIs, Web applications, mobile applications, and services.
The customizable Back-Office makes it easy to add new asset types and define asset type-specific life cycles with state chart configurations (SCXML) in which the back-office graphically renders the state chart for life-cycle transitions and management. It also provides an asset type-based view to manage each asset type as a group, and it presents a graphical view of the entire lifecycle of an asset. Users can customize the subscription process relevant to a particular asset, such as download an e-book, subscribe to an API, or install a mobile app.
Role-based interactions are used to review and publish assets, and authorized users can change and manage the life cycle of any asset. Users also can obtain historical views of asset life cycle updates and view the usage statistics of assets.
WSO2 Enterprise Store supports a clustered deployment for high availability and scalability. It enables single sign-on access, as well as the ability to connect to enterprise user stores and provide access to existing user bases.
WSO2 Enterprise Store Builds on Proven WSO2 Carbon Platform
WSO2 Enterprise Store is built on the same modular, fully componentized OSGi-compliant code base as the award-winning WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform (http://wso2.com/products/carbon/). Like all WSO2 middleware products, it is inherently cloud-enabled and uses proven core framework components that provide a consistent set of enterprise-class management, security, clustering, logging, statistics, tracing, and other capabilities. Additionally, it offers a graphical management console, which is integrated with other WSO2 middleware products, for configuration, management and monitoring.
Significantly, WSO2 Enterprise Store offers proven scalability in a 1.0 product, since it uses the same core technologies and runtime of WSO2 Carbon already being used by enterprises (http://wso2.com/about/customers?032012a) around the world, including a Global 1000 company (http://wso2.com/casestudies/ebay-uses-100-open-source-wso2-esb-to-process-more-than-1-billion-transactions-per-day?032012a) that is handling more than 1 billion API calls per day.
The componentized architecture also gives enterprises unprecedented flexibility to customize WSO2 Enterprise Store by adding WSO2 Carbon middleware products or the 175-plus components on which they are based, as well as to migrate between servers and the cloud. Additionally, the componentized WSO2 Enterprise Store makes it easy to scale to meet growing demand, since any of the components can be decoupled and allocated more compute resources as needed.
