How anthropomorphic. As if aliens (or galaxies colliding) would smile (or even have the concept of smiling) as we humans do. And besides, smiling is actually a form of baring one's teeth, it's not necessarily a friendly thing!

Apple's Swift has been available for over a year now, and Apple has promised it will be made available under an Open-Source license by the end of 2015.
That's great, but could I run Swift code on an Android device today? The key is LLVM which generates assembly code for an imaginary machine, and then converts that intermediate representation to actual code

Now, a researcher who goes by the name Dark Purple has created a USB device that can permanently destroy much of a computer's innards, rendering the machine little more than an expensive doorstop. I built one of them at age 17 and used it to force a change of PCs at school. Officially they all died for natural causes... 40 PCs in a couple of weeks. The other 40 were easier: they had the 110V / 220V selector in bright red, plain sight. Some men just want to watch the world burn...
I came to know the school ordered 160 new PCs but didn't want to deploy them - years later I discovered that a professor was selling them privately.

When Apple rolled out Swift last summer, it expected its new programming language to eventually replace Objective-C, which developers have used for years to build iOS and Mac OS X apps. On TIOBE’s latest index, Objective-C is ranked fourteenth among programming languages, a considerable drop from its third-place spot in October 2014.

Who brought it to third-place? Now that they no longer need it so a lot of support is going toward Swift. 14th rank is because of the legacy programmers, legacy projects and so on, otherwise I haven't seen any discussion about Objective-C ever since I became a programmer, that is a very long time. Apple would not support Objective-C now that it has Swift in its hands.

Apple could be forced to pay out hundreds of millions of dollars in damages after losing a patent lawsuit over its processors.
The case relates to Apple's A7, A8 and A8X processors used in the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and various iPads. In the latest of many patent disputes for Apple, a US District Court jury agreed Tuesday that the company infringed on a 1998 patent held by the University of Wisconsin. Apple now faces damages of up to $862 million (around £560 million or AU$1.1 billion). That's basically chump change to Apple.

They don't give any details in that article. The patent is for a predictive algorithm used in out-of-order schedulers. They also sued Intel several years ago for the same patent.
