Ahhhh....the old multi-mode and single mode fiber issue, which can be confusing when they start talking about cores vs strands! (as some people reference each strand as core)
After all, they are both single strands of fiber when you look at them with the naked eye!

Still, I wouldn't mind having a terabit internet connection. Not sure what I would do with all that bandwidth, though.

Ditto.........Think I would start automatically download entire content from 'some' sites 
I have a 100mb fiber link at home (not the UK one), but it a) grinds to a halt completely during peak time to content outside the country!  and b) randomly stops working at other times for brief periods. Spoke to some others on the compound and their's is the same, they even had the provider out to check, but not resolved anything. it is as if the DNS stops working.
The fiber gateway also stops responding now and again to pings, especially at it appears to relate to when the outbound connection drops as well.
Really annoying when trying to Skype family in the UK in the evening.

With 473 genes Syn3.0 is the simplest self-replicating cell known and could be basis for new organisms designed to make new antibiotics, fuels and drugs And it's positively, definitely, not going to cause the next global epidemic (probably)

*Fear Uncertainty Doubt - You can never be certain when you attempt to change someone else's (poorly written code) so you doubt it'll go well and you fear the outcome.
FUD rules the legacy!!!! 
Maybe if you wait a bit the user will stop doing those things and there'll be no need to look at legacy code. Maybe...

This past November, a group of researchers found some serious vulnerabilities in an encryption protocol that I, and probably most of you, use regularly. The group alerted the vendor, who is currently working to update the protocol and patch the vulnerabilities. The news will probably go public in the middle of February, unless the vendor successfully pleads for more time to finish their security patch. Haven't I railed against that culture here on CP several times in the past? And of course had others scoff in response, something about reinventing the wheel I think.
A developer's first thought upon meeting a challenge (something the standard library or framework doesn't have) should not be "where can I find something that does that?", but instead "can I do that myself?" If you can't do it yourself, fine, look for something ready-made*, but you have to remember that eventually you may find yourself in a situation where no one has gone before and you will have to do it yourself. Will you have allowed your development skills to atrophy? Or will your skills still be sharp from frequent use in many challenging situations? Be a developer!
* And read the code! Learn from it! Don't just use it; can you take the technique and develop a better or more suitable solution?

Well, I personally suffer from what should I bother learn this 10 class API when I could write my own class to do it!!
In fact everybody like my IoC / ServiceProvider / MEF clone here at work!

Have to disagree here I'm afraid. If the problem is trivial then yes, that's a good attitude. If, however, it's going to take you six months to implement and you are writing this for a commercial product then you should probably look to the ready made version that ticks all the boxes as far as the functionality you need.
