I totally despise the flat appearance of windows 10. It is one of the worst GUI things they have ever adopted in my opinion.

I don't like the appearance of Windows 10 either. Windows 7 was freaking beautiful.
I get the idea of trying to make apps that work the same on different devices, but apps cannot look the same on different devices.
On a computer screen, we want it to look good. You can do really fancy stuff. You can make UI's look fabulous and do pretty much all you want.
But phones have limited screen space, so we throw all that overboard. The app just has to fit on the screen.
I always say: my PC is not a phone. Stop trying to turn it into one.

A story published here last week warned readers about a vast network of potentially malicious Web sites ending in “.cm” that mimic some of the world’s most popular Internet destinations (e.g. espn[dot]cm, aol[dot]cm and itunes[dot].cm) in a bid to bombard visitors with fake security alerts that can lock up one’s computer. If that piece lacked one key detail it was insight into just how many people were mistyping .com and ending up at one of these so-called “typosquatting” domains. You mean that wasn't the Microsoft.com website I just logged into?

On a long enough timeline, technical debt creates a lot of misery in the office. Team members tend toward finger pointing and infighting, and a sense of embarrassment pervades. Nobody likes explaining over and over again to stakeholders that seemingly simple changes are actually really hard. Technical Lottery Tickets? Technical Loan Sharks?

So, I never understood this, Google and John split ways, for a number of reasons I'm sure, and another company picks him up, to their advantage. Why didn't Google just keep this guy no matter what, if he is that valuable? Pride, bitter feelings? Google's loss, I'm sure.

I am sure that Apple made an offer which he cant refuse. 
Like hugh pay package (even in that league) and a lot of freedom in his work.

And if anyone (like me) needed to look up WTF "edge" and "edge-computing" means, it's this (from Wikipedia):
Edge computing is a method of optimizing cloud computing systems by performing data processing at the edge of the network, near the source of the data.
I can't wait to see the next job requirement: "must have 5+ years experience in edge computing."
So, we come back full circle. We used to do ALL our computing on the "edge" -- processing data from real time instruments right there on the PC, or, even further back, on the dedicated microprocessor and supporting hardware. Then suddenly it transitioned to "cloud computing" and we were streaming our data to the "cloud" for analysis. Now suddenly, even before the clouds had time to form into a true storm, we're back to "near the source of the data", back to where we started. But now we have a catchy new name for it.
I wonder if evolution (or if you prefer, creation), is this schizophrenic.
Just think how much more valuable your Apple II and Commodore PET is now! It's an "edge-computing device!" 
So, what comes after "the edge"? Some options:
- the fall (as in, falling off the edge of the cliff)
- the dragon (as in, the edge of the known world is surrounded by dragons)
- the turtle (the world is held up by a turtle)
- the center (if you're on the edge, where else can you go but toward the center?)
- the tangent (every edge has a tangent line)
Sadly, none of those are very catchy.

I don't think the robot cyberattack defense robot was included. It doesn't look very threatening.

The study is highly suspect since many studies have found that your preferences over time are can be quite different than your immediate preference (which is why "New Coke" failed.) Further, I suspect that context is going to matter quite a bit; dealing with a robot face on a factory floor is quite different than dealing with one in, say, your kitchen.
