Once again, you are ill-informed. Senior (>65yr) and the blind get to double their personal exemption. Has been so for many years . . . until now.

No, that's incorrect, and if you've been advising people to do that you've been advocating tax fraud: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p501.pdf (page 11).

There is a higher standard deduction (the kicker that I mentioned) which I didn't realize applied to both, so my math was wrong. This couple only saves $750, not $1,950. (see above, page 24-26). I apologize for my tabulation error, but it does not change the character of the argument.

I haven't needed to itemize in years - used to be 7% for medical. But then, we have the problem, now that they're itemizing, of NOT getting the added $12K.

I'll grant that, this is more a benefit to the middle class. I accept the fault in my argument in that portion.

Hint - those who aren't rich need to WORK for their money (paying full taxes on all of it and FICA and Medicare).

They also will not be eligible to receive Social Security or Medicare, so...what? You're mad that someone that isn't part of those systems isn't paying in? Why the hell aren't you paying for my department coffee fund!

The amount of tax the top incomes (not really earners) pay vs. the actual increase in ther wealth is a comparative pittance (in percentage terms). Remember Romney? A multi-million-dollar income? He came in at about 14% tax rate. Look it up That's probably lower than your rate.

Warren Buffet is a better example, he famously pointed out that his marginal tax rate was lower than his secretary. Regardless, the actual volume of income taxes paid are exactly as I've been characterizing, as they relate to the federal budget, which is what these subsidies are paid from.

Individual marginal rates were not part of the discussion and look more like a petty straw man more than anything else, and a pretty serious indicator as to why the tax system needs to be reformed and flattened: which is exactly what's been occurring.

So, once again, how do subsidies to dairy farmers constitute a tax on the poor?
