I did that several times in the days of the Atari ST. The old mouse still works fine to this day. microswitches wear out. You don't have to slam the mouse.
I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats.
His last invention was an evil Lasagna. It didn't kill anyone, and it actually tasted pretty good.

Sounds like the microswitch for the mouse button took the hit. They are not expensive and easy to replace. How are your (de)soldering skills?

They used to be very good. Now, with many items not designed for any sort of attention other than replacement, how this will turn out is a good question.

A mouse should not be too hard to disassemble and put together again. I have the opposite problem at the moment.
There is a 3D printer model of the old Star Trek shuttlecraft and I am trying to convert it to a case for a little 8 bit computer that I have on the breadboard.

Opening a mouse is no problem - screws typically covered by the small slide-pads, and occasionally, also in the battery compartment.
The mouse was part of a refurb package with a nice keyboard (it was the may interest). Aside from the interest of what's inside this particular mouse, fixing it will compete with replacing it with another refurb (final cost of new switch and shipping costs). It has, after all, been replaced with a backup already.
Interesting: There are shows I like, including Babylon 5 probably the top; classic Dr. Who; I watch various Star Treks, which not only stream but also are broadcast 6 nights a week on a local stations (9-4). Except, of course, I never watch Captain Mommy and Voyager. That being said, I never had the urge to decorate via clothing or objects with their representative images and such. So many others do, and of course, they go to conventions and dress up and all.

I've sent the link to appropriate corporate personnel and family members. Interestingly and quite by coincidence, my brother needed a mouse and emailed me if I had a spare.
Sometimes, the universe plays with us with these types of coincidences - but never, it seems, with lottery numbers.

Logitech have a tool to pair mice/keyboards with the dongles... you should be able to pair the new mouse with the old dongle.

I'll see about fixing the old one, first -
I'd like to keep the replace pair linked as a reliable backup.
I'll look into the tool, nonetheless, as it could be quite useful someday.

Have you tried turning the mouse off, rapidly left and right click for 30 seconds or so, then turn it back on? I had a logitech gaming mouse that was double clicking randomly and these steps from the logitech support site fixed it.

I read some where this has something to do with a design flaw in the Omrom 50m switches Logitech uses in there mice but IDK if that's true or not.
This basic troubleshooting step will fix this issue on a lot of mice as I think the main cause of the problem is dust or something lodged in the switch and this procedure forces whatever is in there to dislodge itself. I have also found a couple of well placed bursts of air help too.

Keep the +, but it wore off pretty quickly.
I will have to resort to surgery . . . or euthanasia.

I've been doing a lot of TypeScript and I went back to some C# and keep typing:
if (!myObject?.myarray?.length)
return
and wondering why the compiler is complaining.
It's amazing how fast I become lazy.

If you get him to answer, also find out what you do in typescript if you want normal print or block letters. Script (==cursive) is often too hard to read.

You'd still have to test "length > 0" in C#. The !length to mean "equals 0. Or null. Or undefined" is so good but so bad.
