All my monitors are much wider than they're tall. I do have one monitor I've set up in portrait mode. Great for reading long pages of text, but just about everything else shows a horizontal scrollbar.
There must be a special breed of people I still haven't met, with their eyes positioned one on top of the other. They must be really goofy-looking.

... swapping my router from the ISP original to a Motorola MD1600 because the original is getting flaky.
Took me 3 hours. 2 of them to actually connect the stupid thing (the ISP instructions were wrong and needless to say Tech Support aren't available by phone), and 1 to connect all the devices: skybox, phone, surface, ChromeCast, Amazon Fire stick, printer, Sous Vides, Her tablet, Her surface, VR goggles, ...
But finally I'm back! Did you miss me?

Just out of interest, why did you need time to reconnect all the devices? When I changed my router I just set up the new one with the same SSID and password as the old one and the devices didn't even notice.

Partly because I've tried that before and had problems: some devices couldn't find the new WiFi under the old name, or complained it had changed. This was 7 or so years ago, I don't remember the full details.

Yeah ...  I have four now ...
Three of them are Anova units and they can connect to your phone so you can monitor what they are doing and (better) start then off when you aren't home.
It's surprisingly handy: Cook a couple of kilo's of chilli con carne for example, freeze it in "two people" portions in vacuum bags, then stuff a bag in the sous vide when you go out. When you have an ide what time you will get home, start the sous vide off at 80C for 1.5 hours (1/2 hour for preheat, 1 hour for temp all the way through) then all you have to do when you get home is butter some bread and a quick supper is ready.

I've never had modern systems give a darn about static and such.
On the other hand, back in the day, my Atari ST would die if there was lightning three counties over.

Í have been working with CMOS since the 1970s and grounding everything, including the cat, has become part of the ritual. Early CMOS was much more vulnerable to ESD than today's, but it's still a problem.
And thanks for reminding me. I could use the time and repair my old Atari ST. Nothing too serious, just a mechanical failure in the floppy drive and I think I still have a 3.5 inch DD floppy drive to replace it.
And my Atari 800 needs a new ROM. I hope the dead one is in a socket, so that I can solder up a replacement that uses an 28C256 EEPROM that plugs right in.

I had a laptop motherboard die on me after using a vacuum to suck the dust out the vents. I' had done it before without issues, so I have to assume that it must have created static that fried something.

Personally, I use compressed air to clean the insides of my computers, and have been doing it for decades. As in, the type my dad (an auto mechanic) has in the garage. I stick something long like a pen or screwdriver in the fans so they can't start spinning faster than they're designed to and blow the living sh*t out of it all. They always come out looking new with a minimal amount of effort.
I keep reading that people don't recommend that as there can be some sort of oily residue/build-up coming out of the compressor. I don't know what these people are using, but I've never seen anything but air come out of it. I've done the experiment - blowing air onto a white sheet of paper for a few minutes. It didn't end up looking any less clean than the next sheet in the stack.
