I have a 41C laying around. Many years ago it struck me, when I was filling in my tax return form, that I hadn't been using it since I was filling in the tax return form last year! And for summation it is really crazy to depend on a calculator! (Nowadays, we receive forms filled in with everything the tax authorities know of, which is more or less 'everything', already filled in, so there is no need to sum anything unless you have corrections to make.)

You must not be in the USA, where the lawmakers want to make it as painful as possible to do one's taxes.Mad | Mad | Mad | That's OK - I still send in the paper form, and will continue to do so for as long as the tax prep programs require me to enter all the information from the forms (I wouldn't have a problem entering in the amount, but that's it! Mad | ). In any case, I like to have a running total throughout the year, as well as do simulations and other calculations (such as making sure certain levels stay low enough for me to get certain means-tested benefits), so I have set up my own spreadsheet with only those lines that are pertinent to my situation; as the tax rules typically hardly change at all, the new year is just a copy of the previous year's spreadsheet with entered items just being deleted, except for ongoing (non-retirement) liquid investments, for which I keep the purchase info.
