Extended beta testing or is someone in trouble big time?

It seems a beta version of Micorsoft's next version of Windows, codenamed Whistler has been leaked and has spread through the net via and Internet. Whistler is the next version of Windows to be released after the Millenium edition, and is a merger of Neptune and Odyssey. Reportedly the next version of Windows, Whistler is based on the NT kernal and has been labelled by some as "NT 5.5". Check out ZDNet's article on the versions and mergers of Windows. So far though the leaked version looks pretty much the same as the current version of Windows 2000. There is, however, the inclusion of a MarsCore.DLL file. Mars is to be part of the next next-generation of Microsoft's Internet software for its MSN online service. According to Microsoft, Whistler was tentatively slated to ship in March 2001. What this leak does to that timetable is unknown. Maybe it will kick along it's beta testing efforts :) See BetaNews' article and ZDNet's article for more reading.
