The patches begin...
A day after Windows 2000 was released the first "Compatibility update" was released. This patch - uh, I mean, compatibility update - fixes some compatibility problems with some popular titles such as Microsoft Frontpage, Tomb Raider III and Star Wars Episode 1, to name a few.
Microsoft's official line is that during product compatibility testing prior to release, they focused on the top volume business applications. With that testing complete they are now broadening their original focus to some of the more popular home/entertainment/gaming applications.
Wired report that Windows 2000 still has a number of acknowledged application incompatibilities, including AOL 4.0 and early versions of Microsoft’s own MSN portal, yet Microsoft gave no schedule for future compatibility releases.
See the list of applications affected at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/deployment/appcompat/default.asp.
